Shares of retail giant Trent Ltd. and PSU firm Bharat Electronics Ltd. (BEL) surged in trade on Friday, May 23, after index provider Asia Index announced the two players would join the 30-pack BSE Sensex from June 23, 2025.

On the flip side, FMCG major Nestle India Ltd. and IndusInd Bank Ltd. are slated to be deleted from the index, as their six month average free-float market-capitalisation is lower than the new entrants'.

At 1.30 pm, shares of Trent were quoting Rs 5,448 per share, higher by two percent, while BEL shares were trading at Rs 385.25 per share, up half a percent. Despite being excluded from the index, Nestle India's stock price was higher by 1.7 percent at Rs 2,400.9, while IndusInd Bank shares climbed 70 basis points in trade to Rs 789.95 apiece.

In the BSE Sensex 50, InterGlobe Aviation Ltd and Shriram Finance Ltd will be added, while Britannia Industries Ltd and Hero MotoCorp Ltd will be excluded. Correspondingly, Britannia, Dixon Technologies, Coforge, Hero MotoCorp, and Indus Towers will be added to the BSE Sensex Next 50 index.
