Again, bears remained at the helm as the Nifty revisited yesterday’s low, reinforcing a bearish bias. The index once again found support near the 50 EMA. The RSI on the daily timeframe has slipped out of its recent consolidation. Moreover, the index has broken below the 50 percent retracement of the privous rise from 25,318 to 26,325, indicating weakness.

In the short term, the index is likely to stay under pressure with immediate support at 25,700. A decisive breakdown below this level could open a correction toward 25,610 and 25,530. On the upside, resistance is placed at 25,870 and 25,960-26000.

Hrishikesh Yedve, AVP Technical and Derivative Research, Asit C. Mehta Investment Interrmediates

The Nifty index began the day on a positive note. After an initial bounce, the index resumed selling pressure and eventually settled on a bearish note at 25,758. On the daily chart, Nifty formed a bearish candle, reflecting weakness. Trend line support for the Nifty is placed near the 25,700 level. A decisive break below 25,700 will drag the Nifty towards the 25,500–25,300 levels. On the upside, 26,000 and 26,325 will act as strong hurdles for the index. Thus, short-term traders are advised to adopt a sell-on-bounce strategy.

The Bank Nifty index opened on a negative note, witnessed selling pressure after the initial bounce, and settled on a negative note at 58,960. Technically, on the daily chart, Bank Nifty formed a bearish candle, indicating selling pressure at higher levels. On the downside, 58,900 will act as an immediate support for Bank Nifty. A firm break below 58,900 could extend the weakness towards the 58,000 level. On the upside, 60,000–60,120 will act as a stiff resistance zone for the index. Therefore, short-term traders are advised to book profits on rallies as long as Bank Nifty trades below the 60,120 level.

Nagaraj Shetti, Senior Technical Research Analyst at HDFC Securities

Nifty continued to slide down for the third consecutive sessions on Wednesday and closed the day lower by 81 points. After opening on a positive note, the market moved up further in the early part of the session. The overhead resistance of previous down gap has acted as a strong hurdle and triggered weakness in the mid to later part of the session.

A reasonable negative candle was formed on the daily chart with long upper shadow. Technically this market action indicates an inability of bulls to sustain the bounce and also sell on rise opportunity. Nifty is currently placed at the support of 25700-25600 levels (previous opening upside gap of 12th Nov and also 10-week EMA). A breakdown of this support could possibly open broad-based weakness in the market. However, any bounce back from here could find resistance around 25900-26000 levels.

Following Tuesday's brief consolidation, the Indian Rupee registered a decline today as market participants awaited the Federal Reserve's policy outcomes. The prevailing risk-averse market sentiment, compounded by a high U.S. Dollar demand from precious metal importers, contributed to the Rupee's downward trajectory.

Near-term technical levels for the spot USDINR pair indicate a key support at 89.70 and immediate resistance at 90.30. The bias remains positive for the pair until 89.30 breaks.

December 10, 2025· 16:01 IST

Abhinav Tiwari, Research Analyst at Bonanza

Indian markets ended lower today as investors turned cautious ahead of the US Federal Reserve’s FOMC meeting. The Fed is expected to cut rates by 25 bps, but traders are worried the commentary may sound hawkish, with fewer rate cuts likely in 2026. This uncertainty around the US rate outlook has kept foreign investors on the sidelines, put pressure on the rupee, and reduced risk appetite across emerging markets. As a result, investors booked profits after the indices recently touched alltime highs.

On the stock-specific front, AU Small Finance Bank gained attention after receiving final approval from the Department of Financial Services to increase its foreign investment limit from 49% to 74%. This creates additional FDI room as the bank moves toward becoming a universal bank. While this supported sentiment in select financial names, it was not enough to counter the overall weakness driven by global uncertainty and India’s trade concerns.

Information technology stocks were particularly vulnerable, with the Nifty IT index declining approximately 1% as these companies derive significant US revenues. The broad sentiment of "lower for longer" US rates weighed on emerging market appetite, resulting in sustained foreign institutional investor selling that has intensified over recent weeks.

The RBI's recent 25 bps rate cut and liquidity measures, while supportive for medium term growth, offered only temporary psychological relief amid the overwhelming focus on imminent Fed guidance.

The index opened steady and moved higher initially, hitting an intraday high of 25,948. However, selling pressure emerged at higher levels, pulling the index down to close near the previous day’s low zone of 25,720–25,740. The 20-day EMA, which earlier acted as a support, is now behaving as a resistance, highlighted by today’s high aligning with this moving average.

The RSI has slipped sharply from 60 to 44 over the last three sessions, indicating weakening momentum and a shift in favour of sellers. Additionally, the MACD red histogram bars have been rising, signalling strengthening bearish momentum and an expansion in downside pressure.

Tonight, the market participants will await cues from U.S Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell’s commentary on the likely path of interest rates in 2026.

Bank Nifty faced stiff resistance in the 59,425–59,450 zone and gradually drifted lower through the session, finally closing at 58,960, down 0.44%. After reclaiming the 20-day EMA in the previous session, the index fell back below this key short-term average today. A close below the 20-day EMA typically suggests a loss of near-term strength and increases the probability of further corrective moves unless reclaimed quickly.

On the sectoral front, Nifty Media ended the day as the top sectoral gainer, followed by Nifty Metal. On the other hand, Nifty IT and Nifty PSU Banks emerged as the top two sectoral losers. With regards to stocks, Eicher Motors and Hindalco, emerged as the top stock gainers amongst the Nifty pack while Indigo & Eternal emerged as the top two losers.

The Midcap index staged an impressive rebound from the 100-day EMA in the previous session but failed to deliver a meaningful follow-through today. It instead formed a sizeable bearish candle on the daily chart, reflecting renewed selling pressure and signalling that buyers were unable to sustain momentum. Such a candle after a failed follow-up move often indicates that the bounce was corrective rather than the start of a trend reversal.

Similar to the Midcap index, the Small cap index also failed to build on yesterday’s bounce. This confirms that the recent uptick was more of a pullback within a broader weak trend rather than a reversal. The zone of 17,300–17,400 continues to be a strong overhead resistance, and unless the index breaks above this decisively, the short-term outlook remains weak for smallcaps.

The market breadth remained weak, with the advance-decline ratio skewed in the favour of bears as a total of 315 stocks out of the Nifty 500 universe ended in red.

Nifty View

Looking at key levels, the 50-day EMA zone of 25,730–25,700 is likely to act as an immediate support zone for the Index. A sustained move below this key short term technical support level of 25,700 could lead to Nifty drifting further down, potentially taking it lower towards 25,500. On the upside, the 20-day EMA zone of 25,950-26,000 is likely to act as an strong resistance for the index.

Bank Nifty View

Looking at key levels, the zone of 58,800–58,700 zone is likely to act as an important support zone for the Index. Any sustained move below 58,700 could lead to Index moving down, potentially taking it lower towards 58,500 followed by 58,100. On the upside, the zone of 59,300-59,400 is likely to act as an immediate resistance for the index.

Global equity markets experienced continued volatility due to rising Japanese bond yields and indications of BOJ monetary tightening, which are fostering risk-off sentiments in emerging markets. Focus now shifts to the upcoming U.S. Fed meeting, where a 25-bps rate cut is widely expected. However, internal divisions and mixed economic indicators may temper expectations for further rate cuts in 2026. Indian markets mirrored global caution, weighed down by persistent FII outflows, INR weakness, and uncertainty surrounding U.S.–India trade negotiations despite ongoing discussions. In the near term, market direction will be influenced by central bank cues and clarity on trade developments.
