Kantara: A Legend Chapter-1 has continued its record-breaking run, earning Rs 590 crore worldwide in just ten days. The film has now surpassed the lifetime collections of Saiyaara, Padmaavat, and Sanju, cementing its place among India’s top 25 highest-grossing films.

Kantara Chapter 1 leaves behind Saiyaara at worldwide box office

Kantara: A Legend Chapter-1 was released in the theatres on October 2 and has reached a new milestone in its second weekend run. The film registered a significant increase, leaving behind the Bollywood blockbuster Saiyaara.

According to a trade website, Kantara Chapter 1 earned Rs 37 crore net in India on its 10th day in its theatre (Saturday). With a staggering 66% increase in domestic receipts on Saturday, the movie had an outstanding second Saturday globally.

Kantara Chapter 1's production house, Hombale Films, revealed on Friday that the historical action drama brought in Rs 509 crore worldwide during its first week of release. After ten days, the movie has made Rs 590 crore worldwide.

However, Kantara Chapter 1 has now officially surpassed Tiger Zinda Hai and Dhoom 3 (both Rs 558 crore) to make it into the top 25 highest-grossing Indian films of all time.

Additionally, Kantara Chapter 1 has also outperformed the lifetime collections of other blockbusters like Saiyaara (Rs 570 crore), Padmaavat (Rs 585 crore), and Sanju (Rs 589 crore).

The prequel to the 2022 blockbuster Kantara is penned and directed by Rishab Shetty, who also stars in the film.

The film is set a thousand years before the events of the first film. The film also stars Rukmini Vasanth, Jayaram, and Gulshan Devaiah in key roles.

The film is set in pre-colonial Karnataka, during the Kadamba dynasty era and explores how the ritual of Bhuta Kola takes root in the culture. Meanwhile, the seeds for the rise of Kaadubettu Shiva are also sown.
