Irrfan Khan’s wife Sutapa Sikadar talks about life post his death

Sutapa Sikdar, the wife of the late actor Irrfan Khan, recently opened about her journey of coping with life after his loss. The film writer shared her ongoing struggle to accept his absence, admitting that it has been a difficult and emotional process.

She also revealed that her grief has hindered her ability to pursue her passion for writing, leaving her feeling creatively stagnant. Despite her love for storytelling, Sutapa acknowledged that the pain of losing Irrfan has made it challenging to reconnect with her craft.

In a recent interaction with Times Entertainment, Sutapa Sikdar revealed that she has been working on both a film and a book centered around her late husband, Irrfan Khan, as a way to process and cherish his memories. She explained that the book isn’t meant to be overly serious or “preachy” but is instead filled with lighthearted anecdotes from Irrfan’s life and their shared experiences, making it a joyful tribute to him.

She further mentioned on an emotional note that she has been suffering through a lot emotionally and mentally. "I didn’t imagine it would take so much time to recover from his loss. It's been four and a half years since he was gone, but I haven't been able to come back with the zest I had before. I need to write. I still get static in my emotions, and I personally feel like I can't write."

Sutapa Sikdar opened up about the challenges she has faced in reconnecting with her passion for writing, revealing that she hadn’t written anything in three years due to the emotional toll of losing her husband, Irrfan Khan. She admitted that she lacked the mental space to engage in her craft, as the grief of his passing deeply affected her creative process. Reflecting on their 34-year partnership, Sikdar shared how his absence turned her world completely upside down, leaving her to navigate life in an entirely new reality.

"And it's an everyday struggle with Irrfan was that we shared a lot, and it was more of a friend zone. So that’s very difficult to suddenly not have that connection. Suddenly him not being there- a 35-year-old friend is just not there, who lived with you 24x7. It's tough," Sikadar said.

During the same conversation, Sutapa Sikdar revealed that her sons, Babil and Ayan, have been facing their own personal struggles in the wake of Irrfan Khan’s passing. Addressing the frequent comparisons between Babil and his father, she described them as “unfair,” highlighting the pressure such expectations place on her son. Sutapa also admitted that after Irrfan’s demise, she went through a period of emotional turmoil, becoming what she called the “worst of the energy” in their household. She shared that this shift was initially difficult for her sons to cope with as they adjusted to life without their father.

In conclusion, Sutapa Sikdar admitted that after Irrfan Khan’s passing, she often found herself panicking, as the family felt stranded in the middle of an emotional storm with no one to turn to for comfort. Despite the challenges, she shared that they are gradually learning to navigate their grief and are striving to heal together as a family.
