Telangana, constituting 17 Lok Sabha constituencies, will go into polls in a single phase on May 13, the fourth phase of the 18th Lok Sabha Elections.
After securing 64 seats out of the 119-seat Telangana assembly, the Congress formed the government in the state in December 2023, ending the 10-year rule of the K Chandrasekhar Rao-led Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS) in the southern state.
Thus, with the Congress back on the turf, the BRS' decade-old dominance, and the efforts of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to magnify its base here, Telangana is up for a high-octane triangular electoral battle this time.
The 17 Telangana Lok Sabha constituencies slated to contest in the fourth phase of the Lok Sabha elections on May 13 are:
Among these, Hyderabad, Nizamabad, Karimnagar, Malkajgiri, and Secunderabad Lok Sabha constituencies are up for high-voltage electoral face-offs.
Hyderabad: The BJP has nominated classical dancer and entrepreneur Madhavi Latha to contest against sitting MP and AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi in Hyderabad. This constituency, which includes the old city with a largely Muslim population, has historically been a stronghold of the AIMIM. Owaisi has held the seat for four terms since 2004, following in the footsteps of his father Sultan Salahuddin Owaisi, who represented the city in the Lok Sabha for six consecutive terms from 1984 to 2004.

Secunderabad: The BJP has chosen sitting MP G Kishan Reddy as its candidate from Secunderabad, hoping to clinch a third consecutive victory in the constituency. Meanwhile, BRS has put forward T Padma Rao Goud as its candidate, while the Congress has nominated Danam Nagender.
Nizamabad: In Nizamabad, the BJP's prominent leader Dharmapuri Arvind is contesting against BRS leader Bajireddy Goverdhan and Congress' T Jeevan Reddy. It is anticipated that Nizamabad will witness a three-way race this time. In the 2023 assembly elections, the BJP managed to win two out of seven assembly segments within the Nizamabad constituency.
Karimnagar: Former BJP state chief and current MP Bandi Sanjay Kumar is contesting against BRS' B Vinod Kumar. Sanjay Kumar was removed from his position as state chief just months before the assembly elections in Telangana. In the 2019 elections, Sanjay Kumar won the Karimnagar seat from the TRS by defeating its leader by a wide margin of nearly 90,000 votes.
