Swedish telecom giant Ericsson is banking on its partnerships with Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel to jumpstart a 5G-driven innovation ecosystem in India, through its global API platform, Aduna.
In an exclusive interaction with Moneycontrol, Ericsson’s global CEO and President Börje Ekholm said the company is well-positioned to replicate global success in India by leveraging Aduna, its newly formed joint venture focused on network APIs (Application Programming Interface)
“Globally, we’re already seeing momentum—three US operators recently launched a Fraud API via Aduna. With Jio and Airtel on board, we’re confident about driving similar progress in India,” Ekholm said.
Launched in September last year, Aduna brings together major telecom players, including Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel, AT&T, Deutsche Telekom, Singtel, Vodafone, and others to create and sell standardised network APIS.
These APIs allow developers to easily access and monetize network capabilities like location, fraud detection, and on-demand speed or latency—key enablers for next-gen digital services.
“In India, we see a real opportunity to empower the startup ecosystem,” Ekholm said. “By exposing developers and entrepreneurs to 5G capabilities through Aduna, we’re creating a platform for building entirely new services.”
He said the initiative aims to bridge telecom infrastructure and innovation, giving startups and developers the tools to create new digital applications by tapping into advanced network functions.
