Bryan Johnson, the American technology entrepreneur best known for his efforts to slow down ageing, said he recently undertook an experimental dose of magic mushrooms as part of his ongoing longevity research.
Johnson, who leads the anti-ageing initiative Blueprint, revealed that he had consumed a five-gram portion of the psychedelic substance and described the experience as transformative. Sharing details of the event on X (formerly Twitter), he said the session had left him feeling deeply content and more connected to life.
He wrote, “Yes, this trip changed me. Probably not as you’d expect. People assume I am fearful of death. I’m not. In my darkest days of depression, I reconciled with death. Need a few days to collect my thoughts. Will share more soon.”

In a follow-up post, Johnson expressed a sense of connection to his online followers. “Also much love to all of you. It weirdly feels like my consciousness is deeply intertwined with yours. Feels like family. You’re assholes and terrible. You’re also...nah, just mostly assholes and terrible. Still love you all anyways,” he said.
The entrepreneur, who spends around $2 million each year on health diagnostics, dietary planning, and medical interventions to test whether biological ageing can be slowed or reversed, said that his latest experiment had left him with renewed mental clarity.
The day after the experience, Johnson noted that his thinking felt sharper and his curiosity more active. “Life feels fresh today. New thoughts are flowing. My mind feels more nimble and curious. Did my normal morning routine: light in eyes, nutritious breakfast, exercise, sauna, red light. Completed some tests: brain scan + blood samples. Now going to write,” he posted.

Before undertaking the psychedelic experiment, Johnson had announced plans to take the same dose once a month over a three-month period. He said the goal was to observe any potential impact on what he termed the body’s “longevity markers”. His stated plan included monitoring a wide range of biological data, such as DNA integrity, metabolic rate, protein activity, hormonal balance, cellular ageing, and brain function.
During the session, Johnson’s co-founder at Blueprint, Kate Tolo, temporarily managed his social media accounts and acted as his trip-sitter to ensure the process was supervised.
Johnson, who made his wealth in his thirties after selling his payment processing company to eBay, has since dedicated his time to medical and scientific experiments aimed at understanding whether the ageing process can be halted altogether.
