IPL 2025, GT vs DC: After defeat against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the previous encounter, Gujarat Titans edged past Delhi Capitals (DC) at home with a 7-wicket victory. Jos Buttler was front and centre of the chase with 97 (54) as he guided his team to victory. While Buttler did the bulk of the scoring, following a brilliant 19th over by Mukesh Kumar, it was Rahul Tewatia who scored the winning runs, hitting Mitchell Starc for a boundary. DC, who have been brilliant throughout the season under Axar Patel’s captaincy, failed to defend a target over 200 runs for the first time this season, and will view this as a one-off aberration.
It was GT that won the toss and chose to bowl first. DC lost one of their openers, Abhishek Porel 18 (9), in the second over. Karun Nair 31(18) held the innings together from the other end after KL Rahul too fell after an important 14-ball 28.
The skipper, Axar, soaked in the pressure as he battled with cramps and scored 39 off 32. He stitched an important 53-run stand (36 balls) for the fourth wicket with Tristan Stubbs 31(21). Then came Ashutosh Sharma, who scored a brilliant 37 off 19, including three 6s and two 4s, to take DC over 200.
Chasing 204, GT lost skipper Shubman Gill early because of an unfortunate mix-up between him and Sai Sudharsan. But Buttler and Sudharsan took charge of the chase as they stitched a 60-run partnership off just 35 balls. While Sudharsan fell in the 8th over, Sherfane Rutherford further steadied the ship and kept the scoreboard moving.

It was Buttler’s 119-run partnership with Rutherford (69 balls) that did the job for GT. Rutherford 43 (34) was ruthless, smashing bowlers around the park, but Buttler did most of the damage as he hit eleven 4s and four 6s, giving no respite to the bowlers.
In the 18th over, things slowed down for the home team as Mukesh managed to stem the runs while also picking up a wicket. Starc, earlier taken for five straight fours by Buttler, failed to defend 10 runs in the last over as Tewatia finished the game.
