The IPL encounter between Gujarat Titans (GT) and Delhi Capitals (DC) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad witnessed some drama midway during the match, which the former won by seven wickets. The drama started in the 19th over of the DC innings and it involved Ishant Sharma and rookie Ashutosh Sharma, following which Ashish Nehra joined in with his final act.

DC, who were invited to bat first by the hosts, were batting at 188/6 after 18 overs, following which Ishant Sharma was reintroduced in the attack. He bowled a tight over, which saw only six runs and a wicket come off it. However, Ishant felt it could have been two as he made a desperate attempt for a caught-behind against Ashutosh in the final ball of his spell.

The moment triggered after the ball hit Ashutosh on his body and settled in Jos Buttler's gloves. The umpire, however, showed no interest and with no reviews left GT had to settle with the decision but Ishant remained unconvinced. Soon after he was seen engaged in a chat with the batter involved, also pointing his index finger at Ashustosh. The batter in response rolls up his sleeves to show his arm, pointing out the area of impact. TV replay also confirmed the same, settling the debate.

What happened next led to further drama as umpires were seen having a word with Shubman Gill, explaining that his side have been handed a penalty. GT were allowed only four fielders outside the circle in the final over, leaving head coach Ashish Nehra visibly upset. He, however, used the penalty to further delay the proceedings and introduced Sherfane Rutherford as the Impact Substitute.

The move did help in breaking some momentum as just nine came off Sai Kishore's over, which was his first of the match. GT eventually wrapped up the innings at 203/8 and chased down the target with four balls to spare.
