Rajasthan Royals youngster Vaibhav Suryavanshi is set to become the youngest player to play in an IPL game. Earlier, he became the youngest player to grab an IPL contract at the age of 13 and now has become the youngest cricketer to make debut in the Indian Premier League. RR captain Sanju Samson suffered an injury in the previous game against the Delhi Capitals and RR opted to replace him with the young opener. Samson scored an unbeaten 31 off 19 balls before getting retired hurt.

At just 14 years and 23 days old, Vaibhav Suryavanshi has become the youngest player ever to feature in the IPL. He was listed as an impact substitute for the Royals and is likely to open with Yashasvi Jaiswal when they bat, as informed by Parag at the toss.

"We were looking to bowl, it is a little bit warm under lights, should be better than the last time. Vaibhav the youngster comes in. It's been kinda tricky, we've been doing small bits right but we haven't been able to put a collective performance together, we've been having honest chats as a team. We love playing here, we know the conditions well, hope we can put that to good use," said Riyan Parag after losing the toss.

More about Vaibhav Suryavanshi

Suryavanshi was bought by the Rajasthan Royals for a whopping Rs 1.10 crore. He was registered for a base price of Rs 30 lakh and fetched interests from Delhi Capitals too, who made the opening bid. Rajasthan joined in at Rs 35 lakh and eventually sealed the teenager for Rs 1.10 crore, making him the youngest crorepati in IPL history.

Earlier in January 2024, Vaibhav made headlines when he made Ranji Trophy debut for Bihar at just 12 years and 284 days old, becoming the eighth youngest player to feature in first-class cricket globally. His introduction to senior-level cricket was challenging, as he managed scores of 19, 12, 0, and 0 in his first four innings. Despite a rocky start, Suryavanshi’s potential earned him a spot in the India U19 squad for a series against Australia A in September-October.
