Filmmaker Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s highly anticipated film Spirit, starring Prabhas in the lead role, has officially begun shooting.

The makers confirmed the development on Sunday by sharing pictures from the muhurat ceremony. Adding to the excitement, megastar Chiranjeevi attended the event as the special guest of honour and blessed the team as they embarked on the project.

The photos from the ceremony featured Triptii Dimri, Sandeep Reddy Vanga, producer Bhushan Kumar, Vivek Oberoi, Pranay Reddy Vanga, Shiv Chanana and others gathered for the puja.

The official caption read, “Shoot prarambham! India’s biggest superstar Prabhas’s SPIRIT goes ON FLOORS today! A monumental beginning, produced by Bhushan Kumar and helmed by blockbuster director Sandeep Reddy Vanga. A historic cinematic journey begins now.” Though the makers shared several group photos, Prabhas himself did not appear to be present in the pictures from the puja.

Apart from Prabhas and Triptii Dimri, the film also includes Vivek Oberoi and Prakash Raj in important roles. Interestingly, Deepika Padukone was originally expected to play the female lead, but she had to step away due to scheduling issues. The role eventually went to Triptii Dimri.

In October, Sandeep Reddy Vanga released the audio teaser of Spirit in five languages — Telugu, Hindi, Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam — introducing Prakash Raj and Vivek Oberoi as key cast members.

The makers had also unveiled the film’s “sound story” on Prabhas’s birthday. It featured an intense prison confrontation between Prabhas and Prakash Raj. Raj’s character, a strict jail superintendent, sees the world in clear-cut terms — “either khakhis or kaidis.”

Prabhas plays a former top-ranking IPS officer who ends up behind bars after being dismissed for misconduct. The tension-filled encounter between the two characters is expected to form the core of the film’s gripping narrative.

As of now, the release date of Spirit has not been announced.
