You have a sensitive skin if your skin is often prone to redness, irritation, and discomfort. Sensitive skin can be influenced by a variety of factors, including genetics, environmental triggers, and lifestyle choices. Genetics play a significant role in determining skin sensitivity, with some people naturally predisposed to react more strongly to certain stimuli.

Moreover, environmental factors such as pollution, harsh weather conditions, and UV radiation can exacerbate sensitivity and lead to increased irritation. Lifestyle choices, including diet, stress levels, and skincare habits, can also impact skin sensitivity.

Here are 7 effective skincare routines that will help you manage and reduce issues related to sensitive skin:

Abstain from using multiple products: When you have a sensitive skin care, consider less as more. Avoid using multiple products with active ingredients or harsh additives, as they can overwhelm the skin and trigger reactions. Stick to a simple skincare routine with a minimal number of products to reduce the risk of irritation.

Avoid harsh products: If you have a sensitive skin, always opt for gentle cleansers that are free of harsh chemicals and fragrances. Instead go for products that are labeled as hypoallergenic or designed specifically for sensitive skin. Additionally, refrain from using hot water and harsh scrubbing motions, as these can further irritate your skin.

Irritation free sunscreens: If you have a  sensitive skin, it becomes all the more important to prevent it from the sun's harmful UV rays as it is damage your skin and cause irritation. Experts suggest using a broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher daily, even on cloudy days. Opt for mineral-based sunscreens containing zinc oxide or titanium dioxide, which are less likely to cause irritation.

Reduce inflammation: To reduce redness and inflammation, consider cooling treatments as a skincare routine. Products containing ingredients like cucumber extract, chamomile, and green tea can help calm sensitive skin and provide relief from irritation.

Soothing moisturiser: In order to maintain the skin's natural barrier function and prevent moisture loss, it is vital to use moisturiser. Choose moisturisers that come with soothing ingredients like aloe vera, hyaluronic acid, and ceramides. Apply moisturiser liberally to damp skin after cleansing to lock in hydration.

Tailored treatment: If you struggle to manage sensitive skin on your own, consider seeking advice from a dermatologist or skincare specialist. They can understand your skin's unique needs and recommend treatment options accordingly.

Tried and tested: Even when you are tempted to buy a new skincare product, it is advised that you perform a patch test to assess its compatibility with your skin. Before introducing it into your routine apply a small amount of the product to a discreet area of skin, such as the inner forearm, and monitor for any adverse reactions over 24-48 hours.
