From grandma’s home remedies to products that made your skin tingle, sting or peel, to solutions that are light, skincare has gone through many phases. Once focused on easy remedies and strong sensations, it now values balance, comfort, and consistency.
Gentle skincare isn’t about doing the bare minimum, it’s about choosing products that are thoughtful, effective and designed with your skin’s long-term health in mind. “It’s not about doing less, but doing things better," says Malini Adapureddy, Founder and CEO, Deconstruct Skincare. “Skincare should deliver visible results through formulations that are balanced and based in science. It’s not about aggressive actives or quick remedies, but about using products that offer efficacy without discomfort,” she says.
More and more people, shares Adapureddy, are now choosing skincare routines that are gentler, smarter, and kinder to the skin barrier, the protective layer that keeps our skin healthy. “For example, a good cleanser should clean your face without leaving it feeling dry or tight. Especially in hot, humid or polluted environments, it’s important to use products that clean without stripping,” she says.

The same goes for treatments, she says. “Instead of layering lots of strong ingredients all at once, many are switching to products that do one job well. Say, a vitamin C serum that brightens your skin slowly, or a breakout treatment that works over time, can actually give better results, without causing irritation,” Adapureddy says.
Even hydration is being rethought. In place of heavy, greasy creams, lightweight moisturisers are now becoming more popular. “An oil-free moisturiser can keep your skin comfortable all day without clogging pores. It is also perfect for daily use, especially in warmer weather,” says Adapureddy.

Your skincare is certainly incomplete without sunscreen. These too are getting a makeover. “Newer gel and fluid formulas feel light on the skin and don’t leave a sticky or white residue, making it easier to wear every day. And that’s key, because consistency is what really makes a difference,” she says. These small changes add up, says Adapureddy. “When skincare feels good, we’re more likely to stick with it, and that’s when real results happen.”
