In an unusual move, the British Fashion Council (BFC) has announced the winner of its Model of the Year title a month before the ceremony. Representation Matters
The 27-year-old Sudanese-American model was praised in the post for being “a defining force in today’s fashion landscape.” What she champions on the global stage is artistry and representation. “Her influence continues to shape culture and inspire the next generation,” it further read.

Highlighting Shows
Her achievements this year alone include kicking off shows for Ferragamo, Coperni, and Hugo Boss and concluding for Ralph Lauren, Fendi, Vetements, and Messika. She also walked for top fashion houses including Saint Laurent, Mugler, Tom Ford, Calvin Klein, Bottega Veneta, and Matthieu Blazy’s Chanel debut.

Campaign Star
When not on the runway, she starred in impressive campaigns that include Mugler’s Alien fragrance and the commercial high-street brand Gap. She also took part in the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show and appeared on prestigious magazine covers such as Vogue France and Allure.

Selection Process
The process to select the winner this year has been a tad different from previous years. No models were shortlisted; instead, the BFC formed a private panel of industry experts to select the winner directly.

The panel included BFC’s new CEO Laura Weir, photographer Campbell Addy, Dazed fashion features director Emma Davidson, stylist Carlos Nazario, casting director Emma Matell, movement director Pat Boguslawski, former Dazed editorial director Kacion Mayers, and 10 Magazine editor-in-chief Sophia Neophitou-Apostolou.

Previous Winners
Previously, the coveted title has been given to popular names in fashion, including Bella Hadid, Kate Moss, and Paloma Elsesser. Out of these, Kate Moss has had a record three wins.
