We should always pay close attention to our gut health, not just for comfort, but for protection as well, says Dr Jyoti Mehta, Consultant Radiation Oncologist, Onco-Life Cancer Centre, Talegaon. “Your digestive system helps to process food and it also plays a pivotal role in boosting immunity, hormone balance, detoxification, all of which are linked to cancer prevention,” she adds.

How to support your gut health
Dr Mehta recommends a gut-friendly lifestyle. “Eat plenty of fibre, include fermented foods like curd or kefir, stay adequately hydrated, cut down on processed foods, and keep stress levels in check,” she says.
Foods like leafy greens, oats, whole grains, avocados, yoghurt, and kimchi are excellent choices. “Add a daily probiotic if necessary, and don’t forget to move your body, even a short daily walk supports gut motility,” the expert adds.
