Deputy CM and BJP candidate Samrat Choudhary is making a commanding lead in the Tarapur assembly seat, holding 111,262 votes, a 39,351-vote advantage, as 27 out of 30 counting rounds conclude. After 22 rounds of counting, Choudhary is poised for a decisive victory in Tarapur, leading with 91,321 votes, a margin of over 31,226 votes.

According to media reports, Samrat Choudhary holds a Doctor of Litt. (Honorary) degree from PFC Kamraj University. While honorary degrees are awarded for contributions in a field rather than traditional academic study, the title adds to his stature as a senior BJP leader and Deputy Chief Minister.

There are approximately 63,000 Yadavs, 20,000 Muslims, 50,000 upper castes (Rajputs, Brahmins), 40,000 Kushwahas, 35,000 Sahs, and 28,000 Dalits.

The Jan Suraaj Party has fielded Dr. Santosh Singh from the Tarapur seat. A well-known paediatrician, Dr. Singh, completed his MBBS from Bhagalpur Medical College. He later pursued his MD at PMCH, Patna, where he was awarded a gold medal.

JD(U)’sMewalal Chaudhary won with 66,411 votes. He defeated Shakuni Choudhary of the Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular), who received 54,464 votes.

Samrat Choudhary was born on November 16, 1968, in Lakhanpur village of Munger. His father, Shakuni Choudhary, was a six-time MLA and an MP, while his mother, Parvati Devi, was an MLA from the Tarapur constituency. Choudhary entered active politics in 1990. He was the Minister of Agriculture in Bihar in May 1999 during Rabri Devi's government. He was elected as an MLA from the Parbatta constituency in 2000 and 2010. In 2010, he became the chief whip of the opposition in the Bihar Assembly.

Both the NDA and the Mahagathbandhan are claiming victory, as Tarapur witnessed enthusiastic polling and a closely watched battle between top contenders.

The Tarapur seat recorded a voter turnout of 52.65% in the 2015 Lok Sabha-related cycle. That year, JD(U) won the assembly seat with a total of 66,411 votes.

In 2020, JD(U) candidate Mewa Lal Choudhary won the seat with 64,468 votes, continuing the party’s strong performance in the constituency.

Since its creation in 1951, Tarapur has voted 19 times, including two by-elections. The Congress has won five times, while JD(U) and its earlier avatar, the Samata Party, have secured six victories.

BJP candidate Samrat Chaudhary, a prominent face of the party and known for his sharp criticism of Nitish Kumar, faces stiff competition from RJD’s Arun Kumar.

Tarapur went to polls in the first phase on November 6. The constituency recorded a voter turnout of 66.88%, reflecting high public engagement in the election.

A total of 19 candidates filed nominations for the seat. Of these, 16 were accepted, one was rejected, and two candidates withdrew, leaving 13 contenders in the final race.

Tarapur has become a VIP constituency in the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections, featuring a direct contest between Bihar deputy chief minister and BJP leader Samrat Chaudhary and RJD’s Arun Kumar Singh.
