Diwali is the time when most people step out for late-night gatherings, which often involve feasting and drinking. And while it may only seem fair to enjoy the festive season with your loved ones, there are chances your gut might not take it well. Many people end up suffering from bloating, acidity, pain, and discomfort the next day after a party. As gut health expert Tanisha told Moneycontrol, “Your gut doesn’t take a holiday even when you do.”
Hence, in her latest post on Instagram, the gut health expert shared six simple steps that you can take to look after yourself and enjoy this joyous time of the year without worry. She shared, “Here’s your Festive Gut Health Survival Guide so you can party, indulge, and still wake up feeling good”. From drinking enough water to having a nutritious meal before you step out, these will save you this festive season.
6 ways to avoid gut crashes during festive season
Drink enough water
This has often been stressed by many experts. Tanisha shared that hydration plays an important role, especially when you’re drinking alcohol. She suggested aiming for 4L of water a day and adding a pinch of salt to balance electrolytes.
Eat before you head out
Tanisha suggested eating a healthy meal before stepping out of the house. This helps slow down the absorption of alcohol into your bloodstream and protects your organs. “Eat a dinner rich in protein, fibre & complex carbs before you head out. You’ll indulge mindfully instead of mindlessly,” she said.
Avoid cocktails and sugary mixers
While avoiding drinking is great, cocktails and mocktails are much worse. She said, “Skip the cocktails & sugary mixers—they’re your gut’s worst nightmare.”

Anti-inflammatory drink
She highly recommended adding a “turmeric, ginger & black pepper hot water shot during the day to calm inflammation from late nights & outside food.”
Stick to home food
Don’t skip your meals and eat at home as much as possible. “Keep them routine, keep them wholesome,” she advised.

Listen to your body
It’s best not to overrule your instincts. If you’ve slept late and are not hungry the next morning, Tanisha suggested skipping breakfast. Instead, have a protein and fat-rich brunch.
