Another Deputy Chief Minister, Ajit Pawar, also hailed the NDA's big gains, saying Bihar voted for good governance and a progressive future.

Shinde and Pawar, whose Shiv Sena and NCP, respectively, are the BJP's allies in Maharashtra, congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Bihar CM Nitish Kumar.

Reacting to the NDA crossing the majority mark in Bihar, State Minister Ashok Chaudhary said the alliance had expected “more than 170–175 seats” and thanked voters for delivering a two-thirds mandate.

On Jan Suraaj’s performance, Prashant Kishor took a swipe at its founder, saying the media should question him for claiming JD(U) wouldn’t cross 25 seats. “Ask him what he plans to do now,” Kishor remarked.

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari said the NDA crossing the majority mark in Bihar is a “historic” endorsement of the Modi–Nitish double-engine government. He said the development work done over the last 10 years has earned the trust of voters, adding, “The public has made us victorious. I thank the people of Bihar.”

Kerala BJP president Rajeev Chandrasekhar welcomed the Bihar trends, saying voters have clearly backed the NDA’s model of development and law and order. He said the verdict shows Bihar has rejected “jungle raj and old-style politics,” and wants leaders who deliver. Chandrasekhar added that this message should resonate nationally, including in Kerala, where he hopes voters will push for similar change in upcoming local polls.

The Bihar numbers are settling, and the trend is crystal clear: it’s an NDA wave.

BJP’s Maithili Thakur has tightened her grip on the Alinagar contest, powering ahead with 14,635 votes and stretching her lead to 4,573 votes, her strongest margin yet. The 25-year-old debutant is clearly dominating the early rounds as counting picks up pace.

RJD’s Binod Mishra, once seen as the likely frontrunner, is now trailing at 10,062 votes, struggling to keep up as the gap widens with every update. Jan Suraaj Party’s Biplaw Kumar Choudhary is far behind at 421 votes, while AAP’s Rajipal Jha follows with 253.

A long list of Independent and smaller-party candidates continues to remain deep down the tally, Saifuddin Ahmed (352), Chandu Chaudhry (153), Hari Lal Sharma (131), Navijan Ansari (98), Sanjay Kumar Jha of Mithilawadi Party (61), Ganesh Choudhary (49) and Sitambar Sharma of Jagrook Janta Party (41). Nooruddin Zangi of SDPI has 37 votes so far.

Interestingly, NOTA has secured 735 votes, placing it ahead of almost every smaller candidate.

With Maithili Thakur’s margin climbing steadily, Alinagar is shaping into one of the day’s clearest generational upsets, and she’s firmly in the driver’s seat.

A quick rewind to one of the moments that stirred Alinagar ahead of polling. About two weeks ago, BJP candidate and folk singer Maithili Thakur triggered a heated debate when a video surfaced of her telling voters that “Alinagar will become Sitanagar if I win.” The statement instantly split opinion on the ground and online, with critics accusing the BJP of stoking cultural politics and supporters calling it an assertion of Mithilanchal identity.

Thakur later clarified that the idea didn’t come from her. She said Union Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai had suggested the name change during her nomination filing in Darbhanga, and she agreed because it “reflected the region’s cultural roots.”

BJP leader Prakash Reddy had defended her strongly back then, saying the controversy was being “unnecessarily politicised.” He argued that renaming places linked to heritage wasn’t new — citing Madras to Chennai, Bombay to Mumbai, and Calcutta to Kolkata, and insisted that Alinagar to Sitanagar was in the same cultural spirit.

BJP’s Maithili Thakur is now firmly in control of the Alinagar contest, surging ahead with 11,082 votes, expanding her margin by a massive 4,113-vote jump since the last round.

RJD candidate Binod Mishra has fallen behind at 6,969 votes, as the gap between the two widens sharply with every update.

Jan Suraaj Party’s Biplaw Kumar Choudhary trails far back at 358 votes, while AAP’s Rajipal Jha remains at 188, slipping even further out of the race.

The BJP has dialled up its confidence as early trends roll in. National Spokesperson Jaiveer Shergill said the NDA is headed for a clear win, adding that “by noon, celebrations will break out in the BJP office and a lock will hang on the opposition’s door.” Taking a swipe at Congress MP Rahul Gandhi, Shergill remarked that by the time “he wakes up in the West,” the NDA victory would already be sealed.

Shergill claimed Gen Z voters “rejected the Thugbandhan’s chaos and divisive politics” and opted for the NDA’s stability. He added that Bihar has “locked up hooliganism” and chosen “Jan-Kalyan politics.”

Responding to Congress MP Manickam Tagore’s allegations, Shergill argued that after “voter health audits removed duplicates and infiltrators,” Congress lost its bogus vote bank. He said the party should ask Rahul Gandhi whether elections are won “by sipping coffee in Columbia” or by working on the ground like the NDA.

BJP’s Maithili Thakur has strengthened her hold over the Alinagar contest, now leading with 7,637 votes, expanding her margin by 3,004 votes. RJD’s Binod Mishra trails with 4,633 votes, as the gap between the two continues to widen. Maithili Thakur’s rise from a small village in Benipatti, Madhubani, to becoming one of the most recognised young cultural voices in India is now feeding directly into her new political journey. Just 35 km from Alinagar, where she is contesting her first election, Thakur built her national following through soulful Maithili and Bhojpuri folk performances with her brothers, Rishav and Ayachi. Known for preserving Bihar’s musical heritage, she has earned major honours, including the Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar from the Sangeet Natak Akademi.

Thakur joined the BJP only two days before filing her nomination, saying, “Whatever job the party assigns to me, I will do it with full dedication.” Her entry immediately energised the party’s campaign, with the BJP hoping her massive cultural reach, especially among young and first-time voters, would translate into electoral momentum.

Her journey is backed by a strong academic foundation. After early schooling in Madhubani, her family moved to Delhi to support her musical training. She studied at Bal Bhavan International School in Dwarka before enrolling in Atma Ram Sanatan Dharma College (ARSD College) under Delhi University, ranked 7th in India by NIRF in 2025.

Maithili Thakur’s election affidavit shows a steady financial climb over the past five years, with her total assets now valued at nearly Rs 4 crore. Her annual income has more than doubled, rising from Rs 12.02 lakh to Rs 28.67 lakh. The BJP candidate owns Rs 53 lakh worth of gold, keeps Rs 1.8 lakh in cash, and has a significant footprint in mutual fund investments spread across major schemes.

BJP’s Maithili Thakur has strengthened her position in Alinagar, now leading with 3,794 votes, gaining 1,826 votes since the previous round. RJD candidate Binod Mishra is trailing with 1,968 votes, widening the gap in this high-stakes contest.

Jan Suraaj Party’s Biplaw Kumar Choudhary is far behind with 197 votes, while AAP’s Rajipal Jha remains at the bottom of the tally with 53 votes. Early counting trends suggest that Thakur is consolidating her lead as the margin continues to stretch.

Reacting to the opening trends of the Bihar Assembly election results, Congress leader Avinash Pandey said the Mahagathbandhan is still confident of forming the next government. He claimed that feedback from the grassroots shows strong support for the alliance and insisted that the counting must reflect “the true opinion of the people.”

Pandey sharpened his attack on the Election Commission, alleging that voters were “deleted in a targeted fashion” under the claim of removing illegal immigrants. “After so many questions, the ECI still hasn’t revealed how many foreign nationals were actually found. It’s clear a specific community was cut,” he said.

On the NDA’s early lead, Pandey urged caution. “These are preliminary numbers. Democracy has core values, and we accept them, but we are still confident the Mahagathbandhan will form the government,” he said.

Alinagar is witnessing one of the most dramatic fights of the Bihar election day. Patna district is under strict curbs, from heightened security at 1 Anne Marg to a full ban on victory processions under Section 163 BNSS, as the Model Code of Conduct stays extended till November 16. Early numbers show NDA ahead in 53 seats, Mahagathbandhan in 29, and Jan Suraaj leading in two. Counting started at 8 am with postal ballots across 4,372 tables and 18,000 agents, with EVM rounds from 8:30 am. With 2,616 candidates and 12 recognised parties contesting in two phases, the main fight remains NDA vs Mahagathbandhan, with Jan Suraaj adding a third angle.

Alinagar has thrown up an early twist. Binod Mishra, seen as a frontrunner going into polling, is now trailing in the initial rounds of counting. According to the latest numbers, Mishra is behind BJP’s Maithili Thakur by 123 votes, marking a sharp and unexpected shift in this closely watched constituency.

Thakur, a celebrated Maithili folk singer with a massive following across Bihar, said contesting the polls from Alinagar has been nothing short of life-changing.

“I think this was the best decision of my life,” she told NDTV. “The way I have learnt in these 30 days by living among people, I could not have learnt from any book. This one month has changed my entire life.”

“My political experience was zero,” she admitted. “In one month I have learnt that nothing is above the respect, affection and love of the people. Staying among them, listening to their problems, and finding ways to help, politics gives you that platform.”

Maithili Thakur’s comments come after nine major exit polls predicted a clear victory for the National Democratic Alliance (NDA).

Pollsters, Chanakya Strategies, Dainik Bhaskar, DV Research, JVC, Matrize, P-Marq, People’s Insight, Peoples Pulse, and TIF Research, have projected an NDA tally ranging from 130 to 167 seats. The Mahagathbandhan, they estimate, could land anywhere between 73 and 108 seats.

But as always, there is a health warning: exit polls often get it wrong. Bihar has a long history of proving pundits and projections wrong by the time real votes are counted.

BJP’s Maithili Thakur may be contesting her first election, but the 25-year-old singer says she is already 'mentally ready' to serve the people of Bihar. “I don’t think for even a second whether I will win or lose because I am so happy and satisfied with my 30-day journey,” she told NDTV. “I feel like I will be living here and serving people, so I am mentally prepared for that.”

A quick catch-up! The Bihar numbers are moving fast, and the NDA has sprinted ahead in the opening hour of counting. By 9 am, early trends showed the NDA leading in 117 seats, while the Mahagathbandhan trailed with 58.

Inside the alliance, the JD(U) and BJP are pacing almost neck-and-neck. JD(U) is ahead in 50 seats with a strong 69% conversion rate, while the BJP leads in 49 with a 65% conversion rate. On the Mahagathbandhan side, the CPI (ML) is punching above its weight with leads in 7 seats, outpacing the RJD, which is ahead in 40 seats with a modest 37% conversion rate. The Congress is leading in 10 seats, but with a poor 20% conversion rate from its 60-seat contest.

Top NDA faces are also starting strong. Deputy Chief Ministers Vijay Sinha (Lakhisarai) and Samrat Choudhary (Tarapur) have opened with leads. BJP’s Ram Kripal Yadav is ahead in Danapur.

Counting began at 8 am under a massive security setup,  4,372 counting tables and 18,000+ agents are on duty across 243 constituencies. Postal ballots are being counted first, with EVM votes scheduled from 8:30 am.

Exit polls had already hinted at a comfortable NDA edge, and the early numbers seem to echo that sentiment. According to the ECI, 2,616 candidates and 12 recognised parties contested the two-phase polls, with no repolling required anywhere.

On Tejashwi Yadav predicting a change of guard, Neeraj Kumar shot back, saying the RJD leader “may only be talking about Raghopur.” He added, “Nitish Kumar is a social reformer. NDA will form the government, and JDU will be at the heart of it.”

Bihar minister Ashok Chaudhary sounded confident as counting progressed, saying Nitish Kumar is on track to return as Chief Minister. He took a swipe at critics, adding that “those who once sidelined Nitish Kumar have now understood his value.”

Chaudhary also claimed the NDA will outperform exit poll projections. “We will win more seats than what exit polls showed. We are heading for a two-thirds majority,” he said.

Ahead of polling, BJP candidate Maithili Thakur stirred a major debate in Alinagar when she promised to rename the constituency as Sitanagar if she won. A video of her statement, “Alinagar will become Sitanagar if I win the election,” went viral and quickly became one of the most talked-about campaign moments in the region.

This election is being closely watched as many see it as a direct referendum on Nitish Kumar, the JD(U) chief and Bihar’s longest-serving chief minister, making every early trend and every shift in leads even more significant.

According to Sahni, voters have seen the impact of the NDA’s work on the ground, and the results will reinforce that trust once the trends begin to roll in.

RJD MP Manoj Kumar Jha sounded upbeat just before counting began, saying the party is aligned with the hopes and expectations of Bihar. According to him, the state is “heading towards change” under Tejashwi Yadav and the Mahagathbandhan, and the real picture will begin to emerge by noon.

Jha also brushed aside exit polls, calling them a “game of capital, a game of market, a game of shehenshah,” and insisted the RJD isn’t interested in that theatre. “The actual mandate will speak for itself today,” he said.

Maithili Thakur walked into counting day with unmistakable confidence. The folk singer-turned-BJP candidate said the weeks of campaigning have already given her a sense of what the result might look like , and more importantly, how voters feel.

She said everywhere she travelled in Alinagar, people welcomed her warmly, especially women who pointed to the changes they’ve seen under two decades of NDA rule in Bihar. According to her, many spoke about wanting both PM Modi and CM Nitish Kumar to continue.

“I’ve worked hard in my constituency, and I can already see the response on people’s faces. The blessings I received are something beyond victory or loss,” she said, adding that the support across villages and settlements has kept her optimistic as the EVMs come out today.

The 2025 turnout hit 60.18 percent, slightly higher than 2020’s 57.4 percent and miles above 2010’s 47.33 percent.

Turnout spikes usually indicate:

·         High-profile candidates drawing attention

In Alinagar’s case, all three may be at play.

If you look at Alinagar’s last three elections, the story practically writes itself.

In 2010 and 2015, veteran RJD leader Abdul Bari Siddiqui held the seat comfortably. His margins were solid, nearly 5,000 votes in 2010 and a far bigger 13,460 in 2015. For a while, it looked like RJD had settled in.

And then 2020 flipped everything.

VIP’s Mishri Lal Yadav edged out RJD’s Binod Mishra by just 3,101 votes,  barely 1.96 percent of the total turnout. It was one of the tightest margins in the region, and it reopened the race ahead of 2025.

This stop-start, back-and-forth pattern is exactly why Alinagar is treated as an open seat every single time. Nothing here is guaranteed.

Women actually outvoted men = 71.6% vs 62.8%.

If this trend holds in Alinagar, expect some electoral surprises. Women voters have been the unexpected force in multiple constituencies this time.

For a long stretch, it was Abdul Bari Siddiqui who owned Alinagar. He won in 2010 and again in 2015, becoming a towering presence here. That spell broke in 2020 when Mishri Lal Yadav captured the seat. Today’s result will show whether the 2020 win was a one-off or the start of a new cycle.

Here’s the thing: her mutual fund picks look like someone who’s been reading a lot of AMFI ads, BOI Midcap, SBI Multi Asset Allocation, HDFC Flexi Cap, and ICICI Prudential Large Cap. A surprisingly balanced portfolio for a 25-year-old making her first big public disclosure.

Her affidavit shows a total asset base of nearly Rs 4 crore. Her income has more than doubled in five years, from Rs 12.02 lakh to Rs 28.67 lakh. She also owns 408 grams of gold worth Rs 53 lakh, holds Rs 1.8 lakh in cash, and invests actively in mutual funds across major schemes.

·         Has zero liabilities

·         Earns about Rs 28.7 lakh annually

·         Has no pending criminal cases

She is a graduate, a singer by profession and one of the most recognised young faces contesting this election.

Alinagar’s politics is anything but static. Take 2022 for example, Mishri Lal Yadav, who won the seat in 2020 on a VIP ticket, switched to the BJP after VIP walked out of the NDA.

This seat has seen sudden swings, realignments and tight margins. It’s the kind of constituency where alliances matter, symbols matter and candidate switches matter even more.

In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, BJP’s Gopal Jee Thakur led in the Alinagar Assembly segment by 9,842 votes over RJD’s Lalit Kumar Yadav.

It wasn’t a blowout, but it was a strong lead, bigger than what the NDA had during the 2020 Assembly election. That performance gave the BJP momentum heading into the 2025 Assembly race.

Alinagar sits in the heart of Darbhanga district, and if you follow Bihar politics even casually, this is one seat you cannot overlook. It comes under the Darbhanga Lok Sabha constituency and spans the Alinagar, Tardih and Ghanshyampur blocks along with the Motipur panchayat.

It’s also relatively young, the seat only came into existence in 2008 after delimitation. Voters here elected their own MLA for the first time in 2010, which makes this constituency one of the newest yet most politically active pockets of north Bihar.

Alinagar is a seat to watch because of its narrow past margin and changing candidate profile. The BJP’s recent lead of 9,842 votes in the Alinagar segment of the 2024 Lok Sabha poll gives it an edge heading into the Assembly election.

The 2025 election saw voting on November 6. Reports suggest turnout around 57.3 percent in the seat (slightly higher than last time). Earlier, in 2020, Alinagar had about 2,75,559 registered voters. By the 2024 Lok Sabha election, the number had increased to ~2,84,014.
