A bungee-jumping accident in Rishikesh left a 24-year-old man from Gurugram with serious injuries after the cord snapped mid-air, prompting a full inquiry into the safety practices of the adventure operator. The incident took place at Thrill Factory Adventure Park in Shivpuri, Tehri Garhwal district, on Wednesday afternoon, Times of India stated.
The victim, identified as Sonu Kumar, was rushed to AIIMS Rishikesh in a critical condition, having sustained severe fractures to his chest and left arm. According to police, he fell roughly 180 feet onto a tin shed roof below after the rope snapped.
District authorities responded swiftly. Tehri Garhwal District Magistrate Nikita Khandelwal ordered an immediate suspension of all adventure activities at the Thrill Factory site and directed a technical inquiry. A safety audit of all adventure-sport operators in the district was also initiated.
Local police confirmed that a technical team would examine whether the operator had complied with required norms and whether there was any negligence or equipment failure.
A bystander who filmed the episode claimed that no ambulance or medical personnel were available at the jump site immediately after the accident. The man said he had no choice but to transport Sonu in his own vehicle to AIIMS Rishikesh, as Sonu was bleeding and in severe pain.
Avoid Adventure Sports in India. Authorities Don’t Inspect. Operators Don’t Care.Zero Safety Gear, Zero Standards. Just pure gamble with your life. One accident and they’ll blame “fate,” not their negligence. Stay away. pic.twitter.com/3ACSSEUG4z — Gems (@gemsofbabus_) November 14, 2025
The footage shared online has sparked outrage over safety standards at privately run adventure parks. Some viewers pointed to weak regulation and a lack of emergency infrastructure.
Many on social media expressed anger and concern about how adventure tourism is governed. A commenter on Instagram said: “Not just adventure sports, any made in India thing should be avoided. There is absolutely zero quality testing.”
One user wrote: “Shocking. Rope snaps, no ambulance - pure negligence. Adventure sports need strict safety checks now.”
"And even worse is that health insurance will not cover this," a user remarked.
Thrill Factory has not yet released a public statement responding to the investigation or the allegations of poor safety management. The firm has been asked to provide its technical certification, emergency response protocols, and proof of compliance with licensing norms.
