Achieving a Visual Spectacle

Kalki 2898 AD hit theaters on June 27 and has since been celebrated for its heavy use of VFX. The film's intricate visual effects work, managed by Prime Focus Group, DNEG, and ReDefine, features numerous vehicles, assets, and digital double armies. This meticulous work has played a significant role in the film's immersive experience, drawing audiences into its futuristic narrative.

Ashwin's appreciation for the VFX team's dedication was clear in his statements. He said, "With 'Kalki 2898 AD' now in theaters, I’m thrilled to share my immense appreciation for the visual effects work delivered by Prime Focus, DNEG, and ReDefine teams. Their creativity and technical expertise were instrumental in crafting the film’s climax, which audiences are raving about."
Behind the Scenes

The journey to achieve the film’s final look was arduous. Ashwin highlighted how the team worked tirelessly, iterating the shots until the very end. "They worked tirelessly, iterating the shots till the very end, never turning down a request to perfect each scene. A huge thank you to the VFX and 3D teams for making this a truly immersive experience for viewers," Ashwin remarked.

Adding to the behind-the-scenes insights, producers Priyanka Dutt and Swapna Dutt shared their experiences. They opted to build a significant portion of the set physically rather than relying solely on green screens. Swapna Dutt mentioned, "We didn’t want everything to be green screen thus we built almost 30 percent of the set, something like the Shambala fight with bot and all, it’s insane."

Collaborative Effort

The collaborative effort extended beyond the VFX teams to include significant contributions from other industry experts. Niraj Sanghai, Business Head of Prime Focus Group, played a crucial role in guiding the project. Ashwin praised the supervisors and the broader team, saying, "We have had great supervisors, and what Prime Focus Group, DNEG, and everybody did for us is just phenomenal."
Box Office Success and Critical Acclaim

The film, starring Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan, Deepika Padukone, and Kamal Haasan, has not only captivated audiences but also garnered significant box office success, crossing the Rs 400 crore mark. News18 Showsha rated the film 4 out of 5, praising the performances of Amitabh Bachchan and Prabhas.

"Kalki is an out-and-out Amitabh film. Even though we see very little of him in the first half, the actor’s screen time increases in the second half. The intensity with which he delivers his dialogues is worth praising," the review noted.
