At a time when Bengaluru makes headlines almost every day for its poor infrastructure, a woman from the city took to Instagram to share the condition of a road in Whitefield that she calls "the most dangerous road on this planet". Running through Varthur, the stretch comprises almost entirely of potholes, and one among them is 117 inches long and 56 inches wide. The road is also frequented by school buses.

Former journalist and emcee Zeishah Amlani, who shared the video, said that she met with an accident and even hurt her knees while filming it. "I'm about to take you on the most dangerous road on this planet. More dangerous than Khardung La Pass and North Yungas Road in Bolivia which is called 'the Death Road'," Amlani says in the video before going on to show the muddy, crater-filled Varthur Main Road in Whitefield.

As a line of school buses passed through the stretch, Amlani said it was heartbreaking to make school kids go through such bad roads affecting, their health. "We are also making other people risk their lives for 10-minute deliveries for our convenience through all of this mess," she said, adding that the area does not even have street lights. "Can you also imagine the state of this road when it's raining?"

"If you have a death wish or if you like off-roading activities, this road is for you," Amlani said, urging people to tag the responsible authorities. "It's about time we bring about the damn change that we want to see and hold people accountable for all the taxes that we pay."

Social media users flooded he comment section blasting the Karnataka government and politicians for their insufficient action.

"I feel so embarrassed when my colleagues from abroad visit us and see this is the state of our so called Silicon Valley of India. I wonder why politicians don’t feel embarrassed when their counterparts from abroad visit!" commented one user on Instagram.

"This video carries such a powerful and heartfelt message. More power to you," said another user and added, "It's incredibly risky for pregnant women to travel on these roads, especially when they need to visit the doctor. The traffic congestion only exacerbates the situation. The government must take action to address this. So many accidents occur due to poorly maintained roads. Every life is valuable and it's concerning that despite paying high road taxes, we are still faced with these dangers. Something needs to change for the safety of all."

The video comes just days after Bengaluru roads made national headlines after the deputy chief minister DK Sivakumar slammed Biocon chief and city-based billionaire entrepreneur Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw for criticising the poor infrastructure. Read more about it here.
