The cast of Payal Kapadia’s ‘All We Imagine As Light’ honoured by Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan

On June 13, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan honoured the cast of Payal Kapadia's film 'All We Imagine As Light' for winning the Grand Prix Award at the 77th Cannes Film Festival. This achievement marks the first time an Indian film has won the Grand Prix.

The Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan honoured the cast of Payal Kapadia’s ‘All We Imagine As Light’ on 13 June for their extraordinary feat at the 77th Cannes Film Festival. The film went on to win the Grand Prix Award, the second highest prize at the esteemed film festival. It was also the first Indian film to win the Grand Prix and the first Indian film to compete for the Palme d’Or in 3 decades.

Actors Kani Kusruti, Divya Prabha, Hridhu Haroon, and Aziz Nedumangad, who delivered incredible performances, were felicitated by the CM. Cinematographer Santosh Sivan, who received the Pierre Angenieux ExcelLens in Cinematography Award at Cannes, was also honoured for his outstanding work.

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan took to his social media handle on X (Formerly Twitter) and shared a picture of him with the cast and crew.

He wrote, “Honoured the four Malayali actors Kani Kusruti, Divya Prabha, Azees Nedumangad and Hridhu Haroon who played main roles in the Grand Prix-winning film All We Imagine as Light at @Festival_Cannes. Also, congratulated others who made Indian cinema proud at Cannes. In the wake of the Kuwait tragedy, the ceremony was held without any festivities. Wishing all the artists greater success in future.”

All We Imagine As Light’ made history at the 77th Cannes Film Festival with its innovative and fresh style of storytelling and direction.

The Payal Kapadia directed film follows the lives of two nurses from Kerala who are burdened with personal struggles.

The official description of the film reads - “In Mumbai, Nurse Prabha's routine is troubled when she receives an unexpected gift from her estranged husband. Her younger roommate, Anu, tries in vain to find a spot in the city to be intimate with her boyfriend. A trip to a beach town allows them to find a space for their desires to manifest.”
