Tamil actor Abhinay dies at the age of 44 due to prolonged liver ailment

Tamil actor Abhinay, best known for his performance in the 2002 coming-of-age drama Thulluvadho Ilamai, died on Monday (November 10). He was just 44.

The actor had been battling a prolonged liver-related illness for several years.

Abhinay's struggle with the disease became public after he made heartfelt appeals for financial help to continue his medical treatment. His mortal remains are currently kept at his residence in Chennai.According to reports, the Nadigar Sangam (South Indian Artistes’ Association) has been informed of the situation and has stepped in to arrange the funeral, as Abhinay reportedly did not have any immediate family members to perform the last rites.

Earlier, Abhinay had spoken openly about his deteriorating health in an emotional video that circulated widely online.

In the emotional clip, the actor revealed that his doctors had given him a grim prognosis. “I do not know if I will be around for longer,” he had said, sharing that doctors had told him he might have only a year and a half left to live.

Abhinay’s film career began with Thulluvadho Ilamai, directed by Kasthuri Raja, which also marked the debut of Dhanush.The movies was a huge hit, and Abhinay’s performance was appreciated for its natural charm.

Over the years, he was seen in more than 15 projects across Tamil, Telugu, and Kannada languages.

Apart from acting, he also gave his voice to several projects which were dubbed and also ads.

He had also dubbed for Vidyut Jammwal in the Tamil version of Thuppakki (2012), which was directed by AR Murugadoss and had Thalapathy Vijay in the lead.Despite his fragile medical condition, he tried to stay active in the industry and connected to the industry in any capacity he could.

As Abhinay's medical expenses grew, he had appealed to his friends and fans for help.

Comedian KPY Bala had donated a sum of Rs 1 lakh, while Dhanush, who was his co-star in Thulluvadho Ilamai, reportedly gave Rs 5 lakh to support his treatment.

His last public appearance was at a press conference in Chennai which was a few weeks before his death.

Abhinay’s performance in Thulluvadho Ilamai continues to be remembered as a defining role that captured the restless spirit of youth in Tamil cinema.
