The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has extended invitations to actors Kamal Haasan and Ayushmann Khurrana giving them the esteemed chance to cast their votes in the upcoming Oscars.
The June 26 announcement featured a stellar roster of international artists, including Jason Momoa, Jeremy Strong, Sebastian Stan, Ariana Grande, and Gillian Anderson.
Prominent Indian filmmaker Payal Kapadia, whose work has received international acclaim, documentary filmmaker Smriti Mundra, costume designer Maxima Basu, and cinematographer-casting director Ranabir Das are also invited.
Their inclusion is a testament to the expanding global impact of Indian cinema and its filmmakers on the development of global cinema.
Academy CEO Bill Kramer and President Janet Yang jointly shared their excitement in welcoming this year’s invitees.
“We are thrilled to invite this esteemed class of artists, technologists, and professionals to join the Academy. Through their commitment to filmmaking and to the greater movie industry, these exceptionally talented individuals have made indelible contributions to our global filmmaking community,” the statement read.
Each year, the Academy extends membership invitations across 19 branches, including actors, directors, producers, writers, and technical experts, based on their professional achievements and contributions to the film industry. This year, 534 individuals have been invited, with the Academy placing a continued focus on diversity and global inclusion.
Of those invited, 41% are women, 45% come from underrepresented ethnic and racial communities, and 55% hail from 60 countries and territories outside the United States.

With these additions, the total global membership of the Academy will rise above 11,000, reinforcing its commitment to a broader, more representative voice in world cinema.
The 98th Academy Awards will be held on 15 March 2026, with comedian Conan O’Brien set to host the ceremony.
The voting period for nominations will run from 12 to 16 January, and the official list of Oscar nominees will be revealed on 22 January 2026.
