Abhishek Bachchan's makeup artist passes away, actor reveals, "he was the first person whose feet I touched before every first shot"

Actor Abhishek Bachchan’s long-time makeup artist, Ashok Sawant, who had been with him since the very beginning of his career, passed away after a prolonged illness.

For Abhishek, this wasn’t just the loss of a team member, but of someone he considered family.

The actor took to Instagram to share the news, and his emotional note showed the deep bond he shared with him.

“Ashok Dada and I have worked together for over 27 years. He has been doing my make-up since my very first film,” Abhishek wrote.

For nearly three decades, Sawant was the person behind every look Abhishek carried on screen, from the youthful energy of his early films to the more layered performances of his later years. But the professional relationship was only one part of their connection.

“He wasn’t just a part of my team, he was part of my family,” Abhishek added. The connection between their families goes even deeper. “His elder brother Deepak has been my father’s make-up man for close to 50 years.”

Abhishek shared that Sawant’s blessings were the first step in every new journey he took.

“He was the first person whose feet I would touch and take his blessings whenever I gave my first shot of a new film. From now on, I will have to look up to the heavens and know that you’ll be looking down and blessing me,” the actor said.

Sawant had not been keeping well for the past couple of years, and while he couldn’t always be physically present on set, his concern never wavered. Abhishek recalled, “Whenever I was shooting, there wasn’t a single day he wouldn’t check on me, making sure his assistant was taking care of how my make-up was done.”

Abhishek described Sawant as “the most loving, gentle, and affable person. Always a smile on his face, a ready, warm embrace, and some amazing namkeen chivda or bhakar wadi tucked away in his bag.” I

The note closed with a final farewell that felt personal and deeply human. “Thank you, dada, for your love, your care, your dignity, your talent and for your smile. It’s heartbreaking to even think of going to work and knowing that you won’t be with me. I pray you are at peace, and I look forward to the bear hug when we meet again. Rest in peace and happiness, Ashok Sawant. Shanti.”
