Sobhita Dhulipala shares a unique bond with the film ‘Kalki 2898 AD.’ Unlike what one might assume, she didn't appear as a star cameo. Instead, she provided the voice for Deepika Padukone's character in the Telugu version.
Reports have confirmed that Sobhita dubbed for Deepika’s role of Sumathi in Nag Ashwin's direction, with the director himself acknowledging her contribution in the opening credits.
Sharing her contribution to the film, Dhulipala posted a picture of her name on her Instagram stories and wrote, “Sweetest.” She also tagged the team of Kalki 2898 AD.
‘Kalki 2898 AD’ represents Deepika Padukone's debut in Telugu cinema. She portrays Sum-80, also known as Sumathi, who is destined to bear a miraculous child. The storyline, inspired by the Mahabharata, presents Sumathi as the mother of Vishnu's 10th avatar, Kalki, who is prophesied to end the Kali Yuga and initiate a new era.
Within the narrative, Kamal Haasan's character, Supreme Yaskin, aims to kill this child, while Amitabh Bachchan’s Ashwatthama is entrusted with protecting the unborn, and Prabhas’ Bhairava is motivated by a hefty bounty to capture Sumathi.
The film had an outstanding opening weekend, amassing approximately Rs 85 crore in India on Sunday alone, according to Sacnilk.com. This impressive start resulted in ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ earning Rs 302 crore over its opening weekend in India, with Telugu screenings contributing significantly to this total. The film is projected to surpass Rs 500 crore worldwide.
'Kalki 2898 AD' is notable for its array of cameos. Vijay Deverakonda appears as Arjun, SS Rajamouli as a fellow bounty hunter, Ram Gopal Varma as a vendor in Kashi, and Mrunal Thakur as a pregnant woman fleeing from the Supreme. The film concludes with a tantalising hint at a sequel, leaving audiences eagerly anticipating the next instalment.
