‘Freebies’ are a counter to the conventional mobilization around caste blocs, which upended national politics after the release of Mandal Commission report. However, freebies raise questions about fiscal sustainability and the trade-offs involved for economic performance. As Delhi continues to set a precedent, the debate over the merits and demerits of freebies versus caste politics is likely to shape the future of Indian democracy
If the BJP, with NDA partners like the Apni Party and People’s Conference, can form the government in J&K, that will be seen as a mandate in favour of the revocation of Article 370
Congress and BJP strategies revolve around political mobilisation anchored by Jats and OBCs respectively. Also, high profile crime, unemployment and inflation will have a bearing
The real test lies not in television debates or press statements but on the ground—will Gandhi’s gambit strike a chord with voters, or will it fade into yet another episode of political shadowboxing remains to be seen

Haryana has a total of 10 Lok Sabha seats. These constituencies are crucial for any party or coalition aiming to secure a majority in the Lok Sabha, given Haryana's significant contribution to the total number of parliamentary seats.
Key candidates in the Haryana Lok Sabha Elections 2024 include several prominent political figures. Manohar Lal Khattar (BJP), the current Chief Minister, is expected to play a major role in the party's campaign. Other notable figures include Bhupinder Singh Hooda (INC), a former Chief Minister, likely contesting from Rohtak, and Dushyant Chautala (JJP), contesting from Hisar. The Indian National Congress (INC), Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and Jannayak Janata Party (JJP) will all field significant candidates in this high-stakes election.
In the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) achieved a significant victory in Haryana, winning all 10 seats. This clean sweep by the BJP underscored its dominance in Haryana's political landscape during that election cycle. The Indian National Congress (INC) and other regional parties did not secure any seats, reflecting the BJP's strong performance in the state.

Close to the national capital, Haryana has ten Lok Sabha seats, and the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party has shown a strong presence in the last two parliamentary polls held in 2014 and 2019. In the 2014 elections, the saffron party secured seven seats, while Congress was restricted to a single seat from Rohtak, and Haryana’s Indian National Lok Dal won two seats - Sirsa and Hisar. However, in 2019 when Narendra Modi was elected as Prime Minister for the second consecutive term, BJP had made a clean sweep in Haryana as it won all ten seats, including Ambala, Bhiwani Mahendragarh, Faridabad, Gurgaon, Hisar, Karnal, Kurukshetra, Rohtak, Sirsa, and Sonipat. In the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, BJP’s vote-share in the state was 34.8 percent, Congress’ 23 percent, and Indian National Lok Dal had received 24.4 percent. However, the vote-share of the party increased to 58.2 percent in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, while Congress managed 28.5 percent, and Indian National Lok Dal’s reduced drastically to 1.9 percent. Along with the Lok Sabha polls, the state is also preparing for the assembly polls to elect 90 members as the current tenure of the coalition government formed by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Jannayak Janta Party (JJP) is set to end on November 3, 2024. For the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, the AAP and Congress have forged an alliance. Under the seat-sharing pact, the Congress will field its candidates on nine seats, while AAP candidate Sushil Gupta will be contesting from the Kurukshetra Lok Sabha seat. Earlier, the AAP was focusing on three seats, but eventually settled for one after weeks-long negotiations with the Congress party.
