At a rally in Bihar’s Samastipur on Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took a swipe at Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), asking the crowd whether the state needs lantern.
His remarks came after urged people to switch on their phone flashlights.
“When there is so much light... then do we need 'lalten' (lantern)? Bihar ko 'lalten' (RJD) aur uske saathi nahi chahiye (Bihar doesn’t need RJD and its allies),” he said.

The Prime Minister further remarked that law and order cannot prevail in a state ruled by a party like the RJD. "Their 'jungle raj' has destroyed generations of Bihar. Mothers, sisters, women, youth, and backward communities are the biggest victims of the RJD government. For Dalits, the doors to justice were closed," he said.
The Prime Minister also stated that under RJD's rule, extortion, murder, ransom, and kidnapping flourished in Bihar. "Naxalism and Maoist terrorism also flourished during RJD's jungle raj... In 2014, you gave the NDA an opportunity in Delhi. I resolved to liberate the youth of Bihar and the country from this Maoist terror... We have broken the back of Naxalism, Maoist terrorism in Bihar. Very soon, the entire country, the entire Bihar, will be completely free from Maoist terror, and this is Modi's guarantee," the Prime Minister said.
He expressed gratitude to the people present at the rally, saying that the mood of Mithila has surely ensured that Bihar will move forward at a new pace.
"At this time, you all are getting benefits of the 'GST Bachat Utsav' and from tomorrow, the grand festival of Chhath Puja will begin. Even in such a busy time, you have come here in such large numbers; the atmosphere of Samastipur, the mood of Mithila has surely ensured -- Bihar will move forward with a new speed. I thank you all for coming here in large numbers...'Nayi Raftar se chalega Bihar jab phir aayegi NDA sarkar'," the Prime Minister said.
