Out of the five Jat-significant constituencies in Haryana – Congress is set to win in four, while BJP is ahead in only one, latest trends show. The state has 10 constituencies in total.
While Congress candidates are leading in Sirsa, Rohtak, Sonipat, and Hisar, BJP is ahead in Mahendarganj, as per trends around 7:20 pm.
The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) contested all 10 seats on its own in the 2024 general elections, while the key opposition Congress fought in nine seats, and Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) contested on the lone seat of Kurukshetra.
In the 2019 elections, the BJP secured all 10 Lok Sabha seats in Haryana with a vote share of 58.02 percent.
The Jat community in Haryana is considered to be an influential segment in electoral politics as it constitutes around 29 percent of voters in the state.
In the Jat significant constituencies in Haryana, NDA had a vote share of 53.06 percent in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, in which BJP’s share was 53.00 percent.
The key contests in the Jat-significant seats includes Rohtak wherein Rajya Sabha MP Deepender Hooda, who lost narrowly last time, is likely winning from this seat. He is pitted against current MP BJP’s Arvind Sharma. And in Hisar, Congress's Jai Prakash is set to win.
In Sirsa, former Congress state chief Ashok Tanwar, who was the BJP candidate from this seat, is losing against former Union minister and Congress leader Kumari Selja.
