Qualcomm's Snapdragon Summit 2025 is set to commence on September 23, where the chipmaker is set to unveil the successor to last year’s Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset. However, ahead of the event, the company has confirmed the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 moniker for its flagship chipset. The chipmaker has also addressed the speculations regarding the naming and why it has adopted this naming scheme for this chipset, which is set to power the upcoming Android flagship smartphones.
Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 Elite SoC to succeed the Snapdragon 8 Elite
In a blog post, Qualcomm's Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer, Don McGuire, has revealed that the company's next-generation mobile chipset will be named Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5. It is set to succeed the Snapdragon 8 Elite SoC, and the executive also confirmed that the ‘Elite’ will be reserved for the company's flagship mobile processors in the future.
Qualcomm has also explained that the ‘Gen 5’ label represents the fifth iteration of its Snapdragon 8 flagship series, which started with the launch of Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 in 2021, and this upcoming chipset is the fifth iteration since then. The company stated that this naming convention is meant to simplify the product roadmap for its consumers and Android manufacturers.
The company has also confirmed that its three-day Snapdragon Summit 2025 will commence on September 23, where the chipset’s hardware details and features will be revealed. Right after Qualcomm’s announcement, Xiaomi confirmed that its upcoming 17 series will be powered by the chipset, with other leading Chinese smartphone manufacturers set to announce their new devices with the SoC in the coming months.
