The railroad system in India has recently reached a historic landmark with Hubballi Junction in Karnataka being declared the longest railway platform in the world. The Shree Siddharoodha Swamiji Hubballi Junction now covers a total of about 1,507 metres, making it the biggest ever according to history and a place in the Guinness World Records.

The enormous length also enables two long trains to stop next and not interfere with the activities of each other. This special attribute not only enhances the convenience of passengers but also improves the efficiency of train scheduling. The platform was constructed as part of the yard remodelling work of the South Western Railway, and it was built to simplify operations at one of the busiest junctions in India, which links major routes to Bengaluru, Mumbai, Goa and Hyderabad.

This is a wonder of an engineering project built at a cost of approximately [?]20 crore and is longer than the majority of Olympic running tracks. The modernised design has added better facilities for passengers and better train-handling facilities so that arrivals and departures become smoother.
