An emotional farewell at Bishop Cotton School, Bengaluru, has captured hearts online after the school’s longtime bell ringer rang the bell for the last time following 38 years of service.
The moment, shared on Instagram by user Ratmi, has gone viral with 26 lakh likes. The clip shows students counting each ring aloud, clapping and cheering as Das Uncle, glancing at his watch, completes his final task. Teachers joined in applause, marking the end of an era for the man who kept the school’s rhythm for nearly four decades.
“After 38 years, Das uncle rang his last bell — the man who marked every morning, every memory at Cottons. His smile, his quiet dedication, his presence all part of the school’s heartbeat,” Ratmi wrote in the caption. Das's son added an emotional comment: “Every bell he rang was a promise kept — a signal that time would pass safely, that change was coming on schedule. He didn’t just mark time; he sacrificed his own time to create certainty for everyone else. Now, the final bell has rung for him, and it’s time for his well-deserved peace.”
Social media users flooded the post with tributes. “Just realised, thousands of Das uncles rang their last bells across India… unseen, uncared for, unsung! Congratulations, you are definitely lucky,” wrote one user. Another said: “Do I have any connection to this? No. BUT DID I CRY? Yes.” Others praised the school for teaching gratitude: “Schools showing gestures like this are important so kids learn to respect people who serve us.”
