A major development is the rumored return of Indian cricket legend MS Dhoni, who is set to feature in the 2026 Indian Premier League with the Chennai Super Kings for one final season. Despite persistent retirement speculation, the 44-year-old icon is determined to bow out in style and end his illustrious career on a high.
According to a report from Revsportz, Dhoni is particularly delighted by the return of N. Srinivasan as CSK chairman. Their long-standing bond has played a key role in inspiring “Thala” to extend his journey for one more season.

The internet has been speculating about Dhoni's last season with CSK for years, and there was even doubt about whether the former captain of India will be available for the 2026 IPL. But given that Thala will be getting close to 45 when the IPL 2026 concludes, it appears like the supporters are lucky and may get to see their favorite play for another year.
Notably, MS Dhoni led the team in 2025 after Ruturaj Gaikwad was injured. However, the Men in Yellow had their worst-ever finish, finishing last on the points table for the first time in their history. As a result, Dhoni is motivated to finish strong and strive for a sixth IPL championship, which no other club has accomplished.
Notably, Dhoni's growth with CSK in the early years was facilitated by Srinivasan. However, he was forced to resign in 2015 due to a conflict of interest and betting allegations. However, in May, Srinivasan succeeded his cousin, R. Srinivasan, as chairman. Additionally, Rupa, his daughter, has been named the full-time director.
All of these are currently speculation, and neither MS Dhoni nor the CSK camp have made any official statements. Additionally, the latter is in the United States to watch US Open and is enjoying his time away from cricket. He was recently seen at Arthur Ashe Stadium in America, where Novak Djokovic was in action.
