Jasprit Bumrah, the interim skipper for the first Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test in Perth, led his side from the front and completed his five-wicket haul. He was brilliantly assisted by his teammates Harshit Rana and Mohammed Siraj as India bundled out Australia for 104 in the first innings. The effort by the Indian pace battery helped the tourists secure a 46-run lead, which can prove to be handy considering the pace and bounce in the wicket.
Bumrah removed Alex Carey, the first wicket on Day 2, for 21 to complete his five-wicket haul. This was his first fifer as a captain, helping him join an exclusive list featuring Kapil Dev and Anil Kumble. In fact, Kumble was the last Indian captain to achieve the feat, which was at the Melbourne Cricket Ground back in 2007.

Apart from Carey, Bumrah decimated the Australian top-order and in the process became the first bowler in a decade to dismiss Steve Smith for a golden duck in the longer format. Bumrah had trapped Smith LBW with a ball angling towads the batter, beating him with the pace and movement.
Meanwhile, Harshit Rana, playing his first Test, chipped in with three scalps, while Siraj accounted for two. This is Australia's fourth lowest innings total against India in Tests.
