The non-Pro iPhone 17 model gets a Pro feature for the first time in iPhone’s history, ending years of memes

Apple has just announced the all-new iPhone 17 series that includes the iPhone 17, iPhone Air, iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max. The entire lineup brings meaningful upgrades like new A19 and A19 Pro chipset, upgraded front and rear camera and improved battery. And, the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max finally gets a design change too.

But, that's not the biggest upgrade here. And the feature we are talking about is something users have been trolling Apple for years.

If you’ve followed the iPhone 17 launch, then you may have guessed it and if so, we are talking about the new ProMotion display that Apple finally added to the iPhone 17 this year. Not only that the ‘Always-On display’ also makes the cut to the non-Pro model this year.

What makes it a big deal?
For years, Apple used to retain the good old 60Hz panel for the based iPhone models – the vanilla and Plus variants. However, the iPhone 17 changes this with the bigger display size and support for ProMotion panel with brings the Pro models’ 120Hz refresh rate support that adapts automatically to the content on the screen and adjust the refresh rate from 1Hz to 120Hz.

Not only this, the upgraded display also bring the support for Always-On display.

The big deal is that the ProMotion display was introduced with iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max and Apple kept the feature reserved for the Pro models only till iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max.

This also makes the iPhone 17 the first of its kind to get the ProMotion display.

End of year long memes

Every year, when Apple used to announce the new iPhones, new memes trolling Apple for not offering the 120Hz refresh rate to the vanilla model used to surface on the internet. Years have gone by where people kept waiting and trolling Apple for this. The worst part is that the Android ecosystem offers a 120Hz refresh rate in phones that costs even less than Rs 20000.

Now that the feature is finally here, the memes have come to an end – at least for this feature.
