Shah Rukh Khan’s, Meer Foundation, has stepped in to support Punjab at a time of crisis. The state, battling one of its worst floods in recent years, has seen thousands of families displaced. Now, 1,500 of them are set to receive direct relief through the actor’s charity.

Working with local NGOs, including Amritsar-based Voice of Amritsar (VOA), the foundation is distributing relief kits that cover almost every basic need. From medicines, food items, hygiene supplies, mosquito nets, and tarpaulin sheets to folding beds and cotton mattresses, the packages aim to provide immediate safety and shelter to those affected.

“They are happy to contribute in the project submitted by VOA to distribute household goods including beds, mattresses, gas stoves, fans, water purifiers, etc to about 500 homes affected by floods and adopted collectively." said Seenu Arora, founding member of VOA.

The initiative spans across Amritsar, Patiala, Fazilka, and Firozpur districts, areas that bore the brunt of the floods. The larger goal, according to the foundation, isn’t just survival but helping families “rebuild with dignity.”

What is SRK's Meer Foundation

For those unfamiliar, Shah Rukh Khan founded the Meer Foundation in 2003 in memory of his father, Meer Taj Mohammed Khan. Over the years, it has quietly supported acid attack survivors, women and child welfare programs, and even pandemic relief drives. Its mission has always been about ground-level change, particularly empowering women and vulnerable communities.

Interestingly, SRK isn’t the only Bollywood star stepping in. Salman Khan’s Being Human Foundation has also sent boats for rescue operations in Ferozepur and committed to adopting flood-hit villages near Husainiwala once waters recede. Punjab Tourism Chairman Deepak Bali confirmed the plans, calling it “a much-needed boost for rehabilitation.”

While the scale of devastation remains high, the combined efforts of these star-led initiatives have bought some relief and hope to the region. For families trying to put their lives back together, even a folding bed or clean mattress goes a long way in the current times Punjab is facing.
