Vaibhav Suryavanshi, 14-year-old, becomes youngest player to slam century in IPL

Days after becoming the youngest player to make his Indian Premier League (IPL) debut, 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi on Monday etched a new record under his name, also making a clear cut statement that he is here to stay in the Big Boys Club. Setting the tone for Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the staggering 210-run chase against Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur, Suryavanshi went to slam his maiden IPL ton and in the process became the youngest cricketer to achieve the feat.

The 14-year-old, who walked into the RR playing XI post Sanju Samson's injury, has been a revelation and took just 35 balls to reach the triple digit mark. This was also the second fastest ton in the history of the tournament. 'Universe Boss' Chris Gayle holds the record for the fastest ton in the IPL, which the former West Indies batter achieved in 30 balls.

Suryavanshi displayed great cricketing shots and took just 17 balls to reach his half-century. None of the GT bowlers was spared by Suryavanshi, which includes seasoned Indian quicks like Mohammed Siraj and Ishant Sharma.

Suryavanshi made his intentions known right away in the match as he hit a six off Siraj's bowling on the third ball he faced. The teenager then smashed 28 runs off the fourth over bowled by Ishant, leaving the veteran shaken with the onslaught.

Suryavanshi and Yashasvi Jaiswal started their assault in the very first over and amassed 87 runs during the powerplay. Despite Jaiswal also playing the big shots, he remained in the shadows of Suryavanshi, who blasted 30 runs against GT's Karim Janat.

Suryavanshi was eventually dismissed for 101 off 38 balls by Prasidh Krishna, which featured seven 4s and eleven 6s. By the time Suryavanshi was dismissed, RR had 166 piled on the board, which is the highest partnership for any wicket for the franchise surpassing 155 by Jos Buttler and Devdutt Padikkal against Delhi Capitals at the Wankhede in 2022.

Riding on Suryavanshi's efforts, RR chased down the mammoth target with 4.1 overs to spare.
