Even though the Indian Premier League (IPL) remains the world's most popular T20 competition, there is some outstanding cricket being played in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) across the border. The way these leagues match up their colleagues against one another is what makes them so timeless. Virat Kohli and KL Rahul faced off in Delhi last night, and there was a mildly heated argument between them in the middle. Likewise, in Sunday's Quetta Gladiators vs Peshawar Zalmi encounter in the PSL, two of Pakistan cricket's biggest names faced off when Mohammad Amir bowled to Babar Azam.
Babar was tested by Amir. Babar struggled against Amir and was also hit on the helmet by the pacer's bouncer during his stay in the middle. A concussion test was performed on the batter, following which Amir maintained the domination.
Before his time in the middle came to an end, Babar only managed a single off Amir's bowling. Babar was rendered lifeless after being smacked on the pads by a devastating inswinger from the left-arm pacer. In an instant, the finger went up, and Babar was dismissed.
But the highlight of the moment was Amir's celebration. The seasoned pacer was ecstatic and rushed in the direction of the Gladiators' dugout, where mentor Viv Richards was waiting. While celebrating the wicket, Amir waved to Richards, but the West Indies great advised him to be composed, relax, and keep up the good work.

Faheem Ashraf, his teammate, stole the show with a five-wicket haul, although Amir finished with 1/18. With 5/33 from 3.3 overs, Faheem helped the Gladiators defeat Zalmi by a massive 64 runs.
Amir is ranked 12th with 7 wickets, while Babar, with 117 runs, is not even among the top 10 on the PSL 2025 list of top run-getters. With two victories from six games, Zalmi is in fourth place. Although the Gladiators outperformed Zalmi, they find themselves at the third position with six points.
"Babar Azam will soon regain his form. A king is one who rules over all. No matter how good a batter you are, everyone goes through a rough patch. This is not the first time he’s faced such a phase. Babar is a very good player," Richards told Cricket Pakistan. "I am sure he will get back to form very soon. I believe when you watch players like Kohli and Babar, they appear to do justice to the game of cricket."
Amir optimistic about IPL contract
Amir had stated that he wanted to participate in the Indian Premier League. Amir, the star of Pakistan's Champions Trophy 2017 final, mentioned that he is almost certain to participate in the IPL the next season.
It should be mentioned that, aside from the 2008 inaugural season, no Pakistani cricket player has participated in the IPL. The IPL has prohibited Pakistan cricket players from playing after the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks. Amir may sound optimistic about altering it, but considering the recent tragic event in Pahalgam, it is unlikely to happen.
