If you’ve ever been on Tinder and wondered whether that perfect match was too good to be true, you are not alone. Scammers, bots, and fake profiles have quietly crept into India’s dating apps over the years, often blurring the line between real and fake. Now, Tinder says it is ready to change that.

The dating app has officially launched Face Check in India. This new feature asks users to take a quick video selfie before they start swiping. The idea is simple: prove that you are a real human and not someone pretending to be someone else. If the video matches your profile pictures, you get a blue Photo Verified badge, Tinder’s stamp of authenticity.

It is a small addition, but it could make a big difference in a space that relies on trust. “Face Check is arriving in India at a time when online authenticity has never been more important,” says Yoel Roth, Senior Vice President of Trust and Safety at Tinder’s parent company, Match Group. “It gives people another tool to focus on building genuine connections.”

Indian users are already taking safety seriously. According to Tinder’s Modern Dating Report, half of Indian daters prefer meeting in public places, while over a third use video calls before meeting in person. Safety and authenticity have become just as important as chemistry.

Tinder has been introducing new tools over the years to make online dating safer. From prompts like “Are You Sure?” when someone sends a questionable message to options for ID verification, the app has tried to make users feel more secure. Face Check adds another layer that feels personal and immediate.

The feature has started rolling out to new users in India and will gradually become available to everyone. For daters tired of fake profiles and mismatched expectations, it may bring a welcome sense of relief.

Tinder’s update is not about flashy technology. It is about bringing more trust and reality to digital dating and reminding people that behind every profile, there should be a real person looking for a real connection.
