Everybody wants a smartphone with a massive battery that would last a single day’s use at least if not a week. A company called Avenir Telecom tried fulfilling the wishes of many by showcasing a smartphone with a massive 18,000 mAh battery.
The phone was available via crowdfunding since its unveiling at the Mobile World Conference (MWC) 2019. It turns out; not many want the smartphone as Energizer P18K has failed miserably in achieving its crowdfunding goal.
Energizer P18K was listed on Indiegogo, a crowdfunding platform with a funding goal of $1.2 million. The smartphone was priced at $549 (approximately Rs 38,400) but only attracted $15,005 in pledged support.
The product was supported by just 11 backers. Failing to achieve its funding goal, all pledges would get cancelled, and the company would not receive any funds for the smartphone. This could mean that Avenir Telecom could totally scrap the project as the smartphone just attracted only 1 percent of its total expected eyeballs.
The Energizer P18K was unveiled during MWC 2019. It gained a lot of attention mostly due to its thick form factor that houses an 18,000 mAh battery. The Energizer Power Max P18K is 18mm thick, almost three times thicker than current generation smartphones.
At the event, it was showcased as a smartphone with a 6.2-inch LCD panel with no notch, minimum bezels. Under the hood is a MediaTek Helio P70 SoC paired with 6GB RAM. The rear panel has a triple camera setup with 12 MP + 5 MP + 2 MP sensors. The P18K has a motorised pop-up dual-selfie camera setup with 16MP + 2MP lenses. It runs on Android 9.0 and has dual-sim slots.
The highlight feature is its 18,000 mAh battery that makes the smartphone almost three times thicker than any other smartphone in the market; Energizer claims that the 18,000 mAh battery in its smartphone lasts for five days on average usage and over 50 days on standby. The smartphone can be charged to its full capacity within eight hours using the company’s fast charger.
It seems like nobody wanted a thick smartphone with such a massive battery. The form factor could have possibly been one of the primary reasons for the smartphone failing to achieve its funding goal so miserably. Add to it lack of waterproofing and a good processor which are usually found on competitor devices.
