The clip, shared by entrepreneur Anil Shetty on Instagram, showed the two well-known figures, both in their seventies, dancing to the beats of the dhol during a wedding procession. Their cheerful persona was widely praised, with viewers calling the moment "superb".

The occasion was the wedding of Kiran Mazumdar Shaw’s nephew, Eric Mazumdar, who married Ashley Pournamdari. Eric, the son of Kiran’s brother Ravi Mazumdar, is an Assistant Professor of Computing and Mathematical Sciences and Economics at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech). The celebrations took place at the Taj West End in Bengaluru and were attended by several prominent guests, including Karnataka’s Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, who shared his congratulations on X.

Posting a message to the couple, Shivakumar wrote that he wished them “a lifetime of happiness and togetherness,” expressing his pleasure at joining their special occasion.

According to his LinkedIn profile, Eric graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) before earning his PhD in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from the University of California, Berkeley. In 2021, he joined the Board of Biocon Limited as a Non-Executive and Non-Independent Director.

The bride, Ashley Pournamdari, also has an accomplished background in science and medicine. She completed her studies in biochemistry at UCLA and earned a master’s degree in biomathematics, bioinformatics, and computational biology from Stanford University. She now works as a physician and computational biologist, integrating clinical practice with research-driven innovation.
