Torrential rainfall in Delhi on Wednesday plunged the national capital in chaos as large parts of the city went underwater. Even the newly constructed Parliament did not escape the monsoon's fury. Videos doing rounds on social media show water leaking from the ceiling of the building only a year after its completion.
"Paper leakage outside, water leakage inside," wrote Congress MP Manickam Tagore as he shared a video of the leakage on X. "The recent water leakage in the Parliament lobby used by the President highlights urgent weather resilience issues in the new building, just a year after completion. Moving adjournment motion on this issue in Loksabha."

Construction of the new parliament building was completed in record time. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had laid the foundation stone of the new building on December 10, 2020 and inaugurated it on May 28, 2023. The structure--located adjacent to the old complex in the heart of New Delhi--was built at an estimated cost of Rs 970 crore.
The video sparked courage on social media and users also drew parallels between the recent leakage in other newly-constructed buildings including airports and even the Ayodhya Ram Mandir.
