Stuck in traffic on the night of Karwa Chauth, a Delhi man called police for help, claiming he needed to reach home quickly as the moon had risen and his wife needed to open her fast.
The festival of Karwa Chauth is celebrated by married Hindu women, especially in the northern parts of the country. On this day, wives fast from sunrise until moonrise for the long life and well-being of their husbands. At the end of the day, they open their fast after offering arghya to the moon. In many households, the fast is opened with the husband offering water to his wife.
In south-west Delhi’s Kapashera police station, cops received a unique PCR call from a harried husband who was stuck in traffic. According to an Aaj Tak report, the husband called the police control room to request assistance in traffic clearance, saying the moon had come out and he needed to get home to his wife.
“Chand nikal aaya. Caller ko ghar jaana hai, traffic jam hai,” read a description of the complaint, as shared by Aaj Tak.
The caller was stuck near Samalkha flyover. Two cops were later dispatched to help him out.
Married women not only observe a fast on Karwa Chauth but also do a puja, apply mehendi on their hands and dress up for the occasion. Besides the traditional rituals, the festival also marks a boom in business, according to the NCR unit of the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT).
Everything from jewellery to clothes, make-up material to prayer items like puja calendar and Karva (pots), sieve, lamp, flower sticks and other related materials were purchased in the days before Karwa Chauth, CAIT's NCR unit convenor Sushil Kumar Jain told news agency PTI.
