'We now live in a different Bengal': Sanjiv Goenka announces Rs 10,000 crore investment in West Bengal

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony of the Bengal Global Business Summit (BGBS) 2025, Goenka said the investment will be focused on the three key sectors of energy, healthcare, and education.

    Sanjiv Goenka, the billionaire Chairperson of the RP-Sanjiv Goenka Group, has announced an investment of Rs 10,000 crore in West Bengal over the next few years.

    Speaking at the inauguration ceremony of the Bengal Global Business Summit (BGBS) 2025, Goenka said the investment will be focused on the three key sectors of energy, healthcare, and education. "We will invest Rs 10,000 crore in healthcare, energy and education," he said.

    Praising West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Goenka said she is always accessible and takes quick and transparent decisions. "We now live in a different Bengal today – a Bengal which is transformed by the vision and actions of our honourable Chief Minister," he added.

    Goenka further said that the group now has assets worth Rs 40,000 crore in the state and it has been investing heavily in it.

    The RP-Sanjiv Goenka Group's businesses encompass power and energy, carbon black manufacturing, retail, IT-enabled services, FMCG, media and entertainment, and sports. It has an asset base of $7 billion, with a revenue of $4.3 billion, as per its website. Its key brands include CESC Ltd, Spencer's, Saregama, Nature's Basket, Too Yumm and more.

    Reliance Industries Chairman and Managing Director Mukesh Ambani also addressed the Summit. "It's the best time to invest in West Bengal…In the era of knowledge economy, West Bengal has a special advantage," he said. Ambani also revealed that Reliance's investment in the state has increased 20-fold in less than a decade.

    The 8th edition of the Bengal Global Business Summit is scheduled to take place from February 5 to February 6 in Kolkata.
