Nagaraj Shetti, Senior Technical Research Analyst at HDFC Securities
The choppy movement continued in the market for the second consecutive sessions on Thursday and Nifty closed the day higher by 11 points amidst range movement. After opening with a flat to positive note, the market shifted into a narrow high low range of around 76 points that lasted for the whole session.
A small positive candle was formed on the daily chart with minor upper shadow. Technically, the market action signals range bound action in the market. Probably, the market is awaiting geo-political event during long week end.
Nifty on the weekly chart formed a reasonable positive candle that reversed the previous six loosing weeks. Placement of cluster supports around 24300-24200 levels could offer strong supports on any weakness from here. However, a sustainable upmove above the hurdle of 24700 could open further upside towards 25000 mark in the near term.

Rupee ended at 87.54, down 0.10 paise or 0.10%, tracking range-bound moves in the dollar index at 97.83. Crude prices showed a mild rebound from recent lows to $63. Markets remain watchful ahead of Friday’s key meeting between US President Trump and Russian President Putin over possible peace talks on the Russia-Ukraine war. The rupee is expected to trade in the 87.25–88.00 range.

Ajit Mishra – SVP, Research, Religare Broking
Markets traded lackluster on the weekly expiry day and ended almost unchanged. After a flat start, the Nifty oscillated within a narrow range before finally settling at 24,631.30 level. Meanwhile, a mixed trend across sectors kept participants engaged, with IT, financials, and banking ending in the green, while metal, energy, and realty were among the top losers. However, the recent decline resumed in the broader indices after a short-lived bounce, with both the midcap and smallcap indices losing nearly half a percent each.
The prevailing consolidation suggests that markets have largely digested recent negatives and are now awaiting a trigger for recovery. Additionally, oversold positions in heavyweights across sectors are further supporting this possibility.
Going forward, a decisive break above 24,800 on the Nifty could spark fresh momentum; otherwise, consolidation may persist. Participants should maintain a stock-specific trading approach with a focus on risk management.

Amol Athawale, VP Technical Research, Kotak Securities:
In the last truncated week, the benchmark indices witnessed a pullback rally. The Nifty ended up by 1.1 percent, whereas the Sensex gained 748 points. Among sectors, almost all the major sectoral indices traded in positive territory, but the Pharma and Healthcare indices outperformed, both rallied over 3 percent. Meanwhile, profit booking was seen in selective FMCG and Consumer stocks.
Technically, on daily and intraday charts, the market has formed reversal patterns, which are largely positive. Additionally, a bullish candle was formed on the weekly charts, indicating the continuation of the pullback in the near future.
We believe that 24,500/80300 will act as a key support zone for short-term traders. As long as the market trades above this level, the bullish sentiment is likely to continue. On the higher side, 24,700/80900 would be the immediate resistance zone for the bulls. A successful breakout above 24,700/80900 could push the market towards 24,900-25,000/81500-81800.
However, below 24,500/80300, market sentiment could turn negative. The index could then retest levels around 24,350/79800. Further downside may also continue, potentially dragging the index to 24,200-24,150/79300-79100.
For Bank Nifty, after a long correction, it is witnessing range-bound activity. On the upside, above 55,700, it could rally towards the 20-day Simple Moving Average (SMA), around 56,000 and 56,300. On the downside, below 55,000, selling pressure is likely to accelerate. If that level is breached, the index could slip towards 54,500-54,200.

Shrikant Chouhan, Head Equity Research, Kotak Securities:
Global equity markets were mostly strong over the past week, as the US tariff saga continued. The Indian equity market continued to underperform global equity markets in the past week and was flat over this period. Nifty Midcap and Small cap underperformed by declining 0.7% and 0.6% respectively. The US imposed additional 25% tariffs on Indian exports, while existing exemptions remained in place.
USD-INR traded in a narrow range in the past week. Healthcare (+1.7%), Auto (+1.3%), Pharma (+1.9%) and IT (+0.23%) were the top gainers, while realty (-1.5%), Capital Goods (-1.5%), Consumer Discretionary (-1.5%) and metals (-1.0%) were the major losers.
The market focused on earnings and management commentary during the Q1FY26 earnings season. While aggregate earnings were broadly in line with estimates, the outlook remained muted, resulting in continued cuts in earnings estimates. FIIs remain net sellers and DIIs remain net buyers.
In Global, in US, Russian President Vladimir Putin and his U.S. counterpart Donald Trump are meeting in Alaska on Friday to try to negotiate an end to the war in Ukraine. AI startup Perplexity has offered to buy Google’s Chrome browser for $34.5 billion. In Europe, the U.K. economy expanded by 0.3% in the April-June stretch, slowing from 0.7% in the previous quarter.
Second-quarter data exceeded expectations predicting a 0.1% expansion. Economic activity was weak in April and May, but rebounded strongly in June. In Asia, Chinese tech giant Tencent reported a 15% jump in second-quarter revenue as a strong performance in its gaming unit and AI investments boosted growth.

Nifty witnessed a lackluster trading session, remaining range-bound ahead of the Trump–Putin meeting on Friday. The overall sentiment is likely to favour bullish trades as long as the index holds above 24,337.
On the higher side, resistance is placed at 24,660 and 24,850, while a fall below 24,337 could trigger a resumption of the bearish trend.

Vaibhav Vidwani, Research Analyst at Bonanza
Indian equity markets ended the last trading session before Independence Day holiday with modest gains, demonstrating resilience amidst mixed global cues and pre-holiday caution.
The market's positive momentum was primarily driven by a historic sovereign rating upgrade by S&P Global, which raised India's long-term credit rating to 'BBB' from 'BBB-' with a stable outlook. This significant upgrade, citing India's robust economic growth, sustained fiscal consolidation, and policy stability, provided substantial confidence boost to investor sentiment. S&P projected that India's real GDP growth would average 6.8% annually over the next three years, reinforcing the country's economic resilience.
Technology stocks emerged as the standout performers, with the Nifty IT index surging 1.7% as global tech optimism spilled over into domestic markets. This was owing to strong performances from Infosys, Tech Mahindra, and Bajaj Finserv, each rising up to 3%. The wholesale inflation data also provided support, with July WPI falling to -0.58% compared to -0.13% in June, indicating continued disinflation trends.
Domestic institutional investor support remained unwavering, with DIIs maintaining their buying streak and purchasing equities worth Rs 5,624 crore on August 13, effectively offsetting the FII selling of Rs 3,644 crore. This marked the 28th consecutive session of DII buying, demonstrating the strength of domestic liquidity in stabilizing markets against foreign outflows.

Vinod Nair, Head of Research, Geojit Investments
After a volatile weekly expiry-day session, Indian equities ended flat as investors traded cautiously ahead of the US-Russia summit. IT and pharma stocks advanced on the back of a softer US inflation data and dovish outlook. Banking and consumer durables also gained on hopes of a consumption-led recovery. However, weakness was seen in metals and energy indices due to falling commodity prices and over supply concerns.
S&P’s upgrade of India’s credit rating and its stable outlook, citing strong policy continuity and infrastructure-led growth is likely to support the domestic market. In the near-term, the market is expected to trade in a tight range with a mixed bias looking forward to upcoming geopolitical meets.

Shivani Nyati, Head of Wealth at Swastika Investmart
JSW Cement made its market debut at Rs 153.50, about 4% above its issue price, marking a flat listing. The company ranks among the top 10 cement producers in India and is actively expanding its presence across the country through greenfield and brownfield projects, with the aim of doubling its grinding capacity. However, its revenue growth and profit after tax have shown inconsistency over the past three years.
Being in a growth phase, the company’s high valuation and current losses could lead to short-term volatility in returns.
Investors who entered the public offering for listing gains are advised to maintain a stop loss at Rs 138 and wait for potential upside, while those with a medium- to long-term perspective may consider holding the stock for future growth.

VK Vijayakumar, Chief Investment Strategist, Geojit Investments
The market will be in a wait and watch mode looking for clues from the Trump-Putin summit and PM Modi’s Independence Day message. From the technical perspective, the market is oversold and short-positions are high. Any positive news which triggers short covering can lead to a rally. We will have to wait and watch.
Fundamentally strong banking stocks have drifted down in the last one month while mid and smallcaps with elevated valuations continue to remain resilient. This a liquidity driven short-term aberration. Long-term investors can exploit this value discrepancy by moving away from highly valued mid and smallcaps to the safety of high quality largecaps.
