Stress has a direct effect on fertility because it disrupts hormonal balance, affecting ovulation, and influencing the body's ability to conceive. “High levels of cortisol, the stress hormone, can interfere with reproductive hormones, potentially reducing the chances of a successful IVF cycle.
Additionally, stress can lead to lifestyle changes such as poor sleep, unhealthy eating habits, or lack of physical activity, which may further impact fertility,” says Dr Kaberi Banerjee, infertility & IVF expert and founder & medical director of Advance Fertility & Gynecology Centre.

She adds, “Stress triggers the release of hormones like cortisol and adrenaline, which can affect ovulation and sperm production. Managing stress through relaxation techniques, mindfulness, and support systems can play a crucial role in improving fertility and increasing the success of IVF.”
