Pear, the bell shaped fruit belongs to the Rosaceae family.  This humble fruit is a powerhouse of nutrition that contributes to your health and well-being.
Pears are typically found in the markets from late summer to early winter, roughly from August to November. These seasonal delights are  rich in several essential nutrients, including fibre, vitamin C, and potassium. They also contain phytochemicals, especially antioxidants, which play a vital role in protecting the body from oxidative stress. However, some studies suggest that pears contain fructose and sorbitol, which can sometimes cause diarrhea in children.

Here are some health benefits of eating pear:

Hydration: Pears have a high water content, which helps maintain hydration and supports your health. Staying hydrated is essential for bodily functions such as circulation, temperature regulation, and waste elimination.

Fibre: A medium-sized pear provides about 6 gm of dietary fibre, which makes it an excellent source of this essential nutrient. Fibre aids in digestion, helps maintain bowel regularity, and can prevent constipation. It also plays a role in controlling blood sugar levels, lowering cholesterol, and supporting a healthy weight.

Vitamin C: Pears are a good source of vitamin C. Vitamin C is important for immune function, skin health, and the synthesis of collagen. It also acts as an antioxidant, protecting cells from damage caused by free radicals, and enhances the absorption of iron from plant-based foods, helping to prevent anemia.

Potassium: Pear is rich in potassium. It helps to regulate fluid balance, muscle contractions, and nerve signals. Alongside, sufficient potassium intake is associated with a reduced risk of stroke, protection against loss of muscle mass, preservation of bone mineral density, and reduction in the formation of kidney stones.
