Bollywood actress Vaani Kapoor's promotional posts for her upcoming film Abir Gulaal have inexplicably vanished from her Instagram profile in the wake of India's increasing digital restrictions on Pakistani artists in the wake of the recent terror attack in Pahalgam.
Because of this, there have been rumours that Kapoor may have purposefully distanced herself from the project. It has since been made clear, though, that the actress did not manually remove the posts.
The release date of Abir Gulaal, a romantic comedy starring Kapoor and Pakistani actor Fawad Khan, was set for May 9, 2025. Vaani collaborated with Khan on a number of his posts promoting the movie; as a result, the Indian government has now geo-blocked Khan's Instagram account.
Because Fawad Khan's content was deleted in India, the posts that featured him were consequently automatically deleted from Kapoor's feed; however, those posts remain visible to those who are not in India.
The promotional materials were taken down in tandem with a larger crackdown by Indian authorities, who have prohibited the film's domestic release in the wake of the Pahalgam attack. Severe action has been taken against content related to Pakistan as a result of the attack, which killed 26 tourists.
Abir Gulaal's songs, teasers, and posts have vanished from YouTube in India, and Indian users can no longer access the Instagram accounts of a number of well-known Pakistani musicians, such as Fawad Khan, Atif Aslam, and Ustad Rahat Fateh Ali Khan. A notice stating that the content has been restricted due to a legal request appears when you try to view their profiles.
The situation emphasises the continued tension between the two nations, even though Vaani Kapoor has not yet issued an official statement on the matter. 26 people were killed in the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22, 2025, including a Nepali tourist. The attackers asked their victims' names and religious affiliations before shooting them, according to the horrific accounts provided by the attack survivors, many of whom were women and family members of the victims.
