Ram Charan and Jr NTR families have healthy rivalry

Ram Charan and Jr.NTR paved their way to the Oscars with RRR, directed by S.S. Rajamouli, which won millions of hearts not just in India but also across the world. Jr.NTR and Ram Charan played fictionalised versions of Indian revolutionaries Komaram Bheem aka Akhtar and Alluri Sitarama Raju, respectively.

Ram Charan and Jr NTR have shared a camaraderie for many years now, and they do not shy away from expressing their love for one another during interviews, but did you know their families had a rivalry for nearly three decades?

Ram Charan & Jr NTR’s Family Rivalry

In a throwback interview from 2023, on the DP/30: conversation About Hollywood series on YouTube, Ram Charan revealed that both the families had a healthy rivalry and always supported one another.

Charan said, A sense of brotherhood and camaraderie is there, but obviously, there is a healthy competition. I have seven actors in my family, and once the party is over, once the festival is over, even my cousins and I are competitive. Obviously, with NTR also, there is a sense of competition. Our families have been known as arch-rivals in the film industry for 20-30 years. "His grandfather, and my father… It was like we were arch-rival families," he said in the interview.

Legacy of both the stars

Jr.NTR is the grandson of the Indian matinee idol N. T. Rama Rao, who was also the former Chief Minister of the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. Ram Charan belongs to the Mega family as he is the son of Chiranjeevi, one of the biggest Telugu superstars.

Upcoming projects of the two actors

RC16, starring Ram Charan and directed by Buchi Babu Sana, is a sports drama film, tentatively titled Peddi, featuring Janhvi Kapoor and Shiva Rajkumar. The film is set to release on January 10, 2025.

Jr. NTR and Prashanth Neel's film, tentatively titled NTTNeel or Dragon, is a period-action drama set for a global release on January 9, 2026, with filming reportedly underway.
