Buchi Babu Sana, the director of the highly anticipated action drama Peddi starring Ram Charan, has finally explained what "Chikiri" means. The news came out during a touching talk with A. R. Rahman, the Oscar-winning composer who is writing the music for the movie.

A.R. Rahman Talks About the Talk

A. R. Rahman posted a short video of his honest conversation with director Buchi Babu Sana on X (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday. The composer wrote this on the post: "What is #CHIKIRI?" Find out by watching the video! The song #ChikiriChikiri was sung by @_MohitChauhan. #PEDDI — WORLDWIDE RELEASE ON MARCH 27, 2026.

The post also tagged Ram Charan, Janhvi Kapoor, Shiva Rajkumar, R. Rathnavelu (the cinematographer), Avinash Kolla (the art director), and Navin Nooli (the editor), giving fans a look at the dream team that made the movie.

Buchi Babu Sana talks about how he first heard Rahman's music when he was a kid in the video. He said, "My brother introduced me to your songs when I was in seventh grade."

He then told a touching story, “I didn't know who to tell first when you agreed to write for Peddi and told me I could tell people. So, I called my brother, who was washing the buffaloes in the river at the time! He got so excited when I told him you were doing the music that he started to clap.”

Rahman laughed and said, "When you first came to see me, I was touched by your passion, trust, and respect." I haven't worked on a straight Telugu movie in a long time, and this one really got me excited.

The Story of Chikiri

When they started talking about the new single, Rahman asked what the song was doing in the movie. Buchi Babu smiled and said, "In this scene, the hero sees the heroine for the first time in the village." He tells his friend that she's one of those rare girls who looks good without makeup. He calls her "Chikiri."

When Rahman asked what the word meant, the director said, "In the hero's village, men lovingly call pretty women Chikiri." That's where the song starts.

A Strong Team and a Big Vision

The director also talked about how well Peddi's First Shot did and hinted that Chikiri would have the same energy. Sources close to the production, on the other hand, say that the Peddi team is working very hard to stay on schedule.
